We're in a permanent coup
Taibbi Substack ^ | 10/11/19 | Matt Taibbi

I’ve lived through a few coups. They’re insane, random, and terrifying, like watching sports, except your political future depends on the score.

The kickoff begins when a key official decides to buck the executive. From that moment, government becomes a high-speed head-counting exercise. Who’s got the power plant, the airport, the police in the capital? How many department chiefs are answering their phones? Who’s writing tonight’s newscast?

When the KGB in 1991 tried to reassume control of the crumbling Soviet Union by placing Mikhail Gorbachev under arrest and attempting to seize Moscow, logistics ruled. Boris Yeltsin’s crew drove to the Russian White House in ordinary cars, beating KGB coup plotters who were trying to reach the seat of Russian government in armored vehicles. A key moment came when one of Yeltsin’s men, Alexander Rutskoi – who two years later would himself lead a coup against Yeltsin – prevailed upon a Major in a tank unit to defy KGB orders and turn on the “criminals.”

We have long been spared this madness in America. Our head-counting ceremony was Election Day. We did it once every four years...

It is a very dark time in America. The increasingly radicalized Democratic Party is a threat to liberty. They have openly embraced socialism. I don’t see much of a way out other than a revolution. We may have to go through decades or centuries of hell because Americans are falling for the siren song of “free” stuff and government care.

The scary part is it will get worse as millions of socialist-loving people pour into the country and begin voting.

US Democrat commie activists seem to have turned on Putin and Russian intelligence some time before Trump was elected. As if a schism of some type had taken place...

Thanks for the link - interesting stiff...

https://www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/2019/10/07/not_all_about_the_bidens_why_trump_has_ukraine_on_the_brain_120635.html

from link:

Although the whistleblower complaint seems to have emerged quickly, it must be viewed in context of the long war against Trump and its numerous elements tied to Ukraine.

Recent interviews with senior sources on Capitol Hill and newly acquired documents show that Ukraine was and continues to be central to the effort to take down Trump.

That’s why Trump’s most urgent request of the Ukrainian president was to assist Attorney General William Barr in his investigation of the origins of the FBI’s Trump-Russia probe.

“Our country has been through a lot,” Trump told President Zelensky. “They say a lot of it started with Ukraine.”

This assertion was not wrong. And yet for all of the foreigners, including Ukrainians, who played roles in Russiagate, this is a story about Americans with the sort of scruples, ambitions, and labyrinthine connections found in a Dostoevsky novel.

Yes, my former hatred for Matt Taibbi has changed.
His previous writings were those of foaming-mouthed wiseguy trying to sound like Hunter Thompson— and failing miserably.
He’s allowed to dislike Trump— I can respect a difference of opinion in that regard.
I never knew he was so well informed or capable of critical thinking WRT “the big picture”.
This analysis was spot on.
Too bad most voters will never see it.

This is an excellent article. What makes it unique is that the author is not a "conservative" or right leaning person by any stretch of the imagination. He is a well known left-leaning journalist, who recently filled the role that Hunter S. Thompson filled as the National Affairs Editor for Rolling Stone.

Even those of us who strongly support Trump probably at times wonder "what the hell has happened here?". The entire story of the Deep State trying to drag down Trump is so obvious, so well documented that it seems impossible that most people are not outraged about it. But the left are shameless. Taibbi, though he is a leftist is still a journalist first, and has noticed what's been happening, and is outragted. So, finally some confirmation for the question I keep asking myself:

Shouldn't everyone be outraged by this like I am?
Why aren't they?
When did the Left utterly collapse and become shills for the CIA?

Like many others here, I remember when the Left hated the CIA and took them with a very heavy (and healthy) does of skepticism. Events like the overthrow of the Shaw, MK-Ultra, the findings of the Church commission, would be thrown at anyone suggesting the CIA was a useful organization for the country.

Taibbi has not forgotten those events, nor has he lost his intrinsic fairness compass. By simply asking "what if this had been done to Obama" he is able to show the utter hypocrisy and tribalism of the vast majority of mainstream "journalists".

I would also highly recommend sending this article to any liberal friends who subscribe to Rolling Stone. Taibbi has been one of their most featured writers for almost a decade now, yet this piece, and several others are published on his blog. I suspect his deviance from the Leftist consensus has just become to great for his editors to continue publishing, so he's taken to self-publishing. Ask them: Do you know who Matt Taibbi is? Do you like his writing? Then hit them with: HERE, READ THIS!

One other article on the site is also excellent: his full-throated denuniciation of the Mueller probe, at its conclusion is here:

Russiagate was journalist QAnon (Part 1)

By the way there is no mention of QAnon at all in this article. It is only used in the title as a shorthand for: "being taken in by a huge baseless conspiracy theory". (Which I am well aware many believe is an incorrect view of Q)

Regardless it is one of the hardest takedowns of the media and their embrace of Muh Russia I have read from any source, Leftist, supposed Centrist, or Right Wing.

I agree but from experience trying to rationalize with Liberals/ Progressives, it would not sway many, if any, of them a bit.

There is one old guy holdout Liberal among the group of older guys I socialize with. He drops into our spot when he's in town, every other month or so. For years people (he likes) have gently been telling him: "You aren't a liberal and you shouldn't be a Democrat anymore".

This last week he said, while he thought Trump went to far in his rhetoric, he was going to vote for him because Lizzie Warren is a Socialist and he could never vote for someone that far left.

There are still a lot of people who don't understand what the modern Democratic party really is all about, and we have to find better ways to get the message to them. I think that seeing a hard-hitting condemnation of the Leftist media - by a highly regarded Leftist media star himself is about as good as it gets.

But ultimately, you are right, it's very hard to convince most leftists of anything.

Ugly and beautiful

The math suggest 50 million dead in the United States if this goes the way the left is pushing it. I don't see a lot of beauty in that, even if real Americans win. It's better than the power of the United States in the hands of communist tyrants, but it will be 100% ugly.

I’m thinking the red states and counties need a time out. Just go home for about 10 days, the truckers, railroad engineers, the people who keep the water flowing and the electricity going. Just go home and take a time out.

Already happening in California, but because of their leftists, not because of decent Americans.

Hi.

Interesting coming from Taibbi.

Methinks half of the sentient democrats get this, and wouldn’t want 0bama to go through it.

Thanks for sharing that.

Right on about finding better ways to get the message to them. I think getting the message to them in a way that they can relate to on a personal basis is best. They cannot see the big picture so it must be brought down to a personal level that they can relate to.

The Media is the biggest enemy. Damn them to hell and may they pay for what they’ve done to our country.

Except for three Trump-bashing paragraphs this could have been written by an ardent Trump defender.

Which is a sign of just how dangerous the Spook driven coup attempt has gotten, when a liberal Trump basher like Matt Taibbi writes a powerful anti-coup essay like this.

Everyone should ignore the unwritten Freeper commandment and actually click on the link and read this important essay.

“My take is he seems to be with the coup plotters. Is that correct?”

Nope. The author thinks that the coup plotters are extremely dangerous for America.

“Exactly-the rare, honest liberal.”

Stephen Cohen, the Russia expert married to Katrina vanden Heuvel of The Nation, is another one. He often defends Trump esp on foreign policy concerning Russia.

After WWII Truman dissolved the CIA, or its OSS predecessor. But the reality of the Cold War dictated the need for a way to counter Soviet attempts to overthrow free world governments so it was revived.

The last time that the CIA was reigned in was the Church Committee hearings in the 1970s. Something that wasn’t necessarily popular on the Right.

” I think it may even go all the way back to JFK, who I think sincerely wanted to end Communism in Cuba but was betrayed by the CIA.”

JFK botched that all on his own. He was handed a perfectly good invasion plan by a man who knew a hell of a lot about warfighting, Dwight Eisenhower. But JFK stripped away all of the air support as well as some of the sea power and his reduced Bay of Pigs invasion failed as a result.
