Guns and Cannabis: The Insidious Creep of Tyranny
americanthinker.com ^ | 10/11/2019 | John Klar

Posted on 10/11/2019 7:41:28 AM PDT by rktman

In 2004, Vermont implemented a medical marijuana registry, promising patient confidentiality on its state website. Then, in 2018, Vermont legalized recreational marijuana use and imposed a universal background check on gun-purchasers.

Here's the rub: the federal government was not consulted, and the ATF maintains that anyone using marijuana will be denied clearance to purchase any gun. This was already the case prior to Vermont's recreational cannabis legalization — those who were on the state's marijuana registry were not allowed to buy guns from federally licensed dealers, as the state of Vermont provided the list of registrants surreptitiously to the federal government. Yet those on the cannabis registry could still purchase guns from neighbors — that is, until the vaulted "universal background check" closed that "loophole" for sick people to defend themselves. All without public discussion, or even awareness.

Liberals have been chiseling away at our rights for many decades. They have eroded the gun rights of sickly Vermonters, and no one even knows it. They have eliminated the Confederate flag that Lynyrd Skynyrd used as a symbol of rebellion. That flag is permitted only one meaning now: slaveholder. Soon, the American flag may be permitted only one meaning — the one they impose, the one that calls for its universal removal. Soon, MAGA hats will be joined by other symbols deemed offensive to the P.C. McCarthyites.

Means marijuana stores need to be judiciously located, not that marijuana needs to be illegal.

I am sure that he is all in for good for nothing pot heads living on the streets and making it impossible for people to support local businesses because they can’t leave their vehicles unattended. The security guards said that they had constant problems with them breaking into any area that was not patrolled constantly. Unintended consequences my naive little friend.

In any sane society the causes of the rapid decline that we have witnessed here would not be tollerated. But this has become a liberal enclave... it is uncommon to find people like my wife and I who were born and raised here. We have been invaded. These marijuana businesses destroy any neighborhood that they are allowed to locate in. That is an imposition on the rest of our rights, but as usual the rights of hard working decent folks are trampled to make way for the rights of the worthless scum of society. I am glad that at least we know whose side you are on in this fight.

No use for pot heads even when they’re using the medical marijuana scam. That kind of idiocy is certainly grounds for prohibiting their ownership of firearms. Let them choose between weed and guns.

From the Boston Globe Sept 03, 2019 =>

______________

President Trump reiterates his administration will let states legalize marijuana

President Donald Trump reiterated Friday that his administration is allowing states to set their own marijuana policies.

At a press briefing Friday, the president was asked by DC Examiner reporter Steven Nelson whether cannabis would be federally legalized while he was in office.

Nelson referenced studies showing that states with legal marijuana systems experience fewer opioid overdoses.

“We’re going to see what’s going on. It’s a very big subject and right now we are allowing states to make that decision,” Trump said. “A lot of states are making that decision, but we’re allowing states to make that decision.”

My evidence is the sh*t hole legalized marijuana is changing the place into where I was born and raised and still live in. And believe me we are looking at our options for moving every single day.

Seems to me that the conservative position is that self-harm is not the proper business of government.

Seems to me that the position is more libertarian than conservative. Conservatives aren't calling for a nanny state but they aren't calling for the almost total elimination of restrictions, either.

Ken, to paraphrase... he is not going to waste political capital on something that he has absolutely no control over. He made no commitment to support legalizing it at the federal level. Maybe you should try to read between the lines.

Hey genius, those are the kind of calls I responded to for 25 years. And more often than not marijuana had some role even before it was legalized. It has been a preferred substance for use by scumbags for as long as I can remember.

Trump on the bill to let states decide legalization, June 2018 =>

“I support Sen. Gardner,” Trump said when asked about the bill. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”

Trump is a very straightforward person. Maybe you should dispense with the wishful thinking and take him at his word.

You live in Washington - what's your evidence for your claim (above) that "Colorado [...] is a hell of a lot worse these days"?

And believe me we are looking at our options for moving every single day.

That's the freedom-loving American way.

Who IS calling for the almost total elimination of restrictions? State legalizations of marijuana provide for licensing requirements on retailers and growers, much like is done with alcohol.
