Pacific Gas & Electric Co. shut down power to 500,000 homes and business an estimated 2-million-plus Northern California residents creating the largest blackout in state history. The move, designed as a massive defensive tactic to avoid wildfires amid high winds, created confusion, consternation and angry responses from both the public and public officials.

I’m a procrastinator. Working on my taxes, too.
In the past, when there have been widespread power outages, PG&E would restore power based on the # of people affected. For example, if a repair will restore power to 5,000 people, that will get done before a repair that will restore power to fewer than that # (although if two areas have a similar # of users, one with a lower count might get restored first if it contains a hospital).
The more money you have, the more priority youll be...lol
And Trump was an idiot for calling for proper forest management
Theres no reason many of these lines couldnt have been moved underground and proper forest/grass management couldnt have been started years ago
Has anyone in the areas affected by this power shutdown made note of increased generator sales lately?
Several weeks ago, PG&E announced that on occasion of the annual Santa Ana wind phenomena, power would be shut off in selected areas.
If I still lived in Kali-Fornia (I got smart and left in 1994!), I’d have a big ass, whole house diesel generator READY TO GO!
Kali-Fornia preppers, anyone?
I am in Ventura county we were supposed to have SEVERE Santa Annas a few days ago news reports were apocalyptic we brought in patio furniture ect. and not even a breeze!!! I am with you how in the HELL do they know what the hell will happen in the next 10 years!!! Think of how many times the people in FL. have been evacuated for massive hurricanes AND to have just a storm hit!!! We are also on this power outage BS but they havent turned it off yet!!! CANT WAIT /s !!!!
If you look at a map of the counties, you'll see that the (red) conservative counties are in the majority, and the progressive liberal (blue) counties are along the coast - San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles basin, Sacramento.
The transmission lines for electric power and natural gas come through the red counties on their way to the big blue population centers. The red counties are more rural, and their power comes directly from those transmission lines. If PG&E needs to cut power on those transmission lines, there aren't alternative ways to feed power to those rural areas.
PG&E budgets for maintenance of these transmission lines, but they are limited by poor forest management and enviro-whackos.
I wonder How Uhaul
is Doing with East
Bound Movers?
Terrible!
Since their power is out, too, they can’t receive ANY phone or online orders. Not only that....they can’t open their doors, turn on lights or service their vehicles.
(Joking, of course, but it could be the truth :)
Home generator sales are booming.
Result of failed forestry management. Older cutting standards worked. The never cut a tree mentality sucks and is destroying this state.
“Atlas Shrugged” wasn’t a novel, it was a prediction of the future ...
Where I live in TN we’ve always had what I call “dirty” power in that the supplier often has surges and occasional stoppages that can run from a few minutes to several hours. We’ve also had a huge snow storm and a tornado, each of which cut off power for several days. My solutions have been to put surge protectors on all my outlets that have attached electronics and to get an all house automatic propane powered generator with a 500 gal. tank that will run the house for about 400 hours. My advice to people in CA is to do the same. Of course, with the PG & E problems the costs of auxiliary power rigs and propane are likely to skyrocket. Here in E TN propane runs about $4.00/gal.
I think we are watching blue California turn red.
“The libs made their bed, and now they can lie in it. Ha ha ha’
Yes in general, but these Northern California counties vote red.
Thats just because Conservatives are rugged self reliant individuals that live out in the country where the air doesn't smell like the liberal $hit holes like LA
If I still lived in Kali-Fornia (I got smart and left in 1994!), Id have a big ass, whole house diesel generator READY TO GO!

Propane’s probably better because it keeps better in long term storage. I have a whole house propane system.
Yep, that is what I thought of when hearing about PG&E first shutting off the power.
“Who is John Galt.”
Second thing that comes to mind is our own Declaration of Independence:
“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.”
You are probably
Correct,
Electricity is Needed
In this Modern age.
Not with the millions of illegal aliens voting Democrap (several times) in every election. Patriot Californians are outnumbered by sheer numbers of Democrap parasite voters.
I’m in CA. Bought our generator three months ago. We were warned of this.
Multi millions experience the first taste of the Green New Deal.
