Turkey's Syria invasion: Member of US Special Forces says, 'I am ashamed for the first time in my career'
A member of U.S. Special Forces serving alongside the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria told Fox News' Jennifer Griffin on Wednesday they were witnessing Turkish atrocities on the frontlines.
I am ashamed for the first time in my career, said the distraught soldier, who has been involved in the training of indigenous forces on multiple continents. The service member, whom Griffin described as "hardened," is among the 1,000 or so U.S. troops who remain in Syria.
Turkey is not doing what it agreed to. Its horrible, this military source on the ground told Griffin. We met every single security agreement. The Kurds met every single agreement [with the Turks]. There was no threat to the Turks -- none -- from this side of the border."

Had Obama pulled our troops out of there, every Democrat would be praising him, but now they all condemn Trump.
The Montagnards got screwed more royally than the Kurds.
You are correct- IF that is indeed what is going on. We are not in a position to know. Erdogan is a huge enemy of our friend, the newly elevated Head of the House of Saud... bin Salman.
Erdogan went to Saudis and told them he was going to be the anointed One the true and only Caliph of the Caliphate. Saudis were and are not amused.
There is the public picture and then what is really going on. This story— to me, is a plant. No spec ops would talk in this manner— unless they are retired and running a wannabee farm and they are being paid by outside agitprops.
Seriously? You put that much faith in Fox News? As they publish a hit piece article against President Trump using an unnamed source? Really?
Upthread someone already mentioned that the author of this article is yet another Obama toadie. I see no reason to trust this article as factual.
Excellent, cogent and precisely correct observations. This is fake news... which Trump cannot currently ID as such. Personally— i think Trump has tethered the “goat” for Erdogan to be drawn out. To accomplish a coup that hitlery never could get done properly— she being too f’n stupid and arrogant.
Trump said today— turkey steps out of line, and he will destroy their economy— thus making payment of the military an impossibility. Que the coup— so they can get paid.
You’re one of the rare ones who knows about or remembers the Montagnards.
When are you leaving to j p in the Kurds. Lots of tough talk.
IF they are even “in country” in Kurdistan/Syrian buffer region. We have zero verification of this— dude could be anywhere... including at Langley Headquarters of alphabet slop hoppies. Most likey is there, complete with “war sounds” provided in the background. Why trust ANY reporterette who is on their special payroll. Just sayin.
Like I said, if Fox got punked, then so was I. But my point has always been that this has been an effed up situation due to politics for going on two decades now and there was no magic answer that didnt have a down side. Im not unhappy about a decision to retreat in this case. What grinds me is the personal attacks against those who have concerns about the long term costs of this decision. Trump is the decider, so my concerns dont have any weight, but I thought we lived in a place where we can have different thoughts and debate them, not insult them. My first inclination is not to discount the concerns of a trooper on the ground in the fight. The first thought here ran to fake news.
I totally understand this dude and he has every right to be ashamed of what Trump did. He’s earned it.
A lot of people are probably wondering, since the Kurds have some 1800 ISIS prisoners, they should effective use them as shields, and tell President Trump that unless that US acts quickly and decisively, the Kurds will have no alternative but to execute these 1800, as they are too dangerous to release or allow to be released.
and the Hmong.
The U.S. invades and occupies a foreign country (Syria), and captures 20,000 prisoners in the process. So now we have to maintain a permanent military presence in that country, because we have no idea what the hell to do with them?
Im sure President Trump made this decision to let Turkey deal with this for one simple reason: He knows his predecessor and his own military advisors are laughing their asses off at him over his predicament.
And Im sure his Attorney General has informed him that bailing out of Syria is the only way for him to save face, because the U.S. has no military or legal mechanism to deal with those ISIS prisoners. Think about it:
1. Congress never issued a formal declaration of war ... so they cant be treated as prisoners of war.
2. If they ever set foot on U.S. soil, they have all the legal standing they need to pursue criminal charges against whoever was responsible for having them captured. Under U.S. law, theyre probably considered kidnap victims.
Humor us and let a few threads go by, without your idiotic, inane comments showing up first and foremost on every FR damn thread.
Pretend you have a life for a minute.
We are essentially setting 10s of 1000s of ISIS prisoners free.
I see. No dooubt the Kurds are only holding them because we pay them to.
When you find yourself on nearly every FReeper's idiot-list, it's usually a good sign that you're:
A. An idiot.
B. Someone with a bad argument who needs to just stop typing.
Fake news.
Not our fight.
There was no threat to the Turks — none — from this side of the border.”
From what I understand, this is not the case. I thought the Turks and Kurds had been fighting each other for some time now.
All of this pro war stuff popping up in the media all of a sudden stinks to high heaven. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a CIA op, they seem to be forever trying to drag us into conflict.
