SHREVEPORT, La. -- The U.S. Supreme Court will not hear an appeal by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in their fight to keep the Confederate monument on the Caddo Parish Courthouse grounds.
Said spokeswoman Jackie Nichols: "Our petition was denied today by the Supreme Court. Although we are disappointed by this news, we are not dissuaded in our fight to protect our monument. We fight on!"
The denial of the writ upholds the previous decision of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, which affirmed the trial court’s ruling in favor of the Parish, dismissing the lawsuit.
“The parish is pleased that we have additional confirmation that we have the right to decide whether the Confederate monument can remain on the Courthouse grounds,” said Donna Frazier, parish attorney.

Those of us from the South appreciate and honor our heritage......our ancestors fought in that war and many are buried on our sacred soil.....

I think you're parsing too much, like Snopes and other modern liberal revisionists. Confederate veterans were Americans and were eventually recognized as such by the US Gov't, and pensions, graves, and monuments were protected by federal law as equivalent to US veterans. Admittedly much of this was intended as symbolic gesture, but it was intended in the sense of reconciliation and it is divisive to make a petty point about it.

The civil rights movement accomplished nothing except the empowerment of a population that commits most of our crimes, uses most of our welfare, votes overwhelmingly for handouts, and reminds us constantly about how much they hate us. With very few exceptions, the civil rights movement was a complete disaster for the nation.

Permitting Confederate monuments is a symbol of unity; the rest of the nation says, that even though we disagreed with you (the South), and fought you to the death, we still recognize our common humanity and will permit you to honor your heroes.
That’s tolerance.
The other way is to have the government declare that there is only one correct way to think, and everyone will fall in line and parrot it.
