No, you learn history. Like I care what the government has to say about a bunch of treasonous bastards who split the nation in tow and caused some 700,000 deaths.

Oh please. You’re absurd. A bunch of treasonous Southern Democrats split the nation in two and caused the deaths of some 700,000 Americans. Shame on you, you moron.

It’s what they did and what they were fighting for. Have you ever considered what America would look like today if the Confederacy had prevailed?

You call yourself a conservative and you come to a conservative web site venerating a bunch of slave owning, treasonous Southern Democrats. Talk about the height of absurdity.

Im not arguing that Confederate Army veterans were Union Army veterans. The laws respecting headstones, pensions, and monuments still distinguished the two. But these are laws of the United States, including the states re-admitted after ratifying the 14th amendment, with all citizens acknowledged as US citizens, with Confederate combatants pardoned with rights reinstated. Federal and state law recognized them as veterans. They cant be called traitors because they were pardoned and all rights and privileges reinstated. They were acknowledged as Civil War veterans of the United States and its petty nitpicking to argue otherwise.
Frankly the Republicans won that dispute and reconciliation Is part of the legacy of Lincoln and Johnson, despite Reconstruction. Modern revisionists want to destroy the legacy of the Civil War and the lessons learned thereby, because those lessons are inconvenient to the narrative of grievance.
