Dicks Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack told CBS News that his company destroyed $5 million worth of assault-style rifles to keep them out of private hands. Ed Stack told CBS News during an interview that the millions of dollars worth of inventory was turned into scrap metal. I said, You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them.
The Hill: The CEO of Dicks Sporting Goods says that after the company made the decision to no longer sell assault-style rifles, more than $5 million worth of the weapons were destroyed.
In an interview with CBS News that aired Sunday, Ed Stack said following the decision last year to stop offering assault-style rifles, the question of what to with the remaining inventory lingered.
I said, You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them,' Stack said, adding that the company turned $5 million worth of the weapons into scrap metal.
Dicks made the decision to stop carrying the rifles following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., which left 17 dead and reignited the national conversation surrounding gun control.
We found out that we sold this kid a shotgun, Stack said. Thats when I said, Were done.'

So why didn’t he destroy all the shotguns?
The new horse-face president is begging for some stiff medicine.
That’s sounds like a load of crap to me. It would have been cheaper to just send them back to the manufacturer.
places i will never shop include ...
RTV
Return To Vendor.
I suspect that the cost is way inflated, and that the weapons might have been re-directed or returned, and that since the alleged CEO doesn't know what means "assault rifle", that we could be looking at a high vis con.
We want proof, meaning makes, models, and numbers (not a few pics). .
Resignation? Nope. This guy needs to be fired.
Yeah! You win a cupie doll!!! Doesn’t matter how many you buy and destroy, it just keeps the gun manufacturers in business dude!
By golly, you’re right!
$5 million of guns that just evaporated so Ruger got paid for them and gets to make more!
Dont be a Dick’s Sporting Goods stockholder.
If I need anything they might have, I always try to find it somewhere else.
Get woke, go broke.
“Dicks CEO Says They Destroyed $5M Worth Of Assault Rifles”
And where did they manage to acquire $5M worth of “Assault Rifles,” since they are largely illegal to possess or acquire.
“Off the Street”? Why would they be “on the street” if they were legally purchased with full background check cleared? They would only be “on the street” if Dick’s was irresponsible.
Stupid a@@ argument they are “cleaning up the streets”. Anything but— they are endangering people who would want a semi-automatic rifle for self defense.
And ... idiot boy at Dick’s... GET IT RIGHT. You NEVER ever sold an “assault-style rifle” which would be... a “style” like an assault rifle— which is a SELECT FIRE Machine Gun. If you ever did sell a MACHINE GUN you would be in crap loads of trouble without the correct Class IV permitting and licensing. So— you NEVER had an assault rifle in your inventory— EVER!!!
“If I were a stockholder, I would force a vote for his resignation.”
So, $38 is all that is keeping him from office?
100%... coulda donated them to local PD’s and taken a tax write off, this way nothing
and like has been said, i’d be pizzed if i was a stockholder
What a Dick
Today I went to Academy to keep my money out of Dick’s hands.
I’m waiting to see the film of the destruction and the 12 conservative witnesses .... otherwise it is pure BS.
You know what???? Kiss my a@l@.......
How can people be so stupid?
The bad guys will have these guns. Just know that.
So we can’t have them to defend our family?
Who made our small children and wives hostage to guys like this dick?
