Pittsburgh has become the second U.S. city to incorporate United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into its practices, planning and policies, an initiative that will affect more than $4 billion worth of public and private projects in the region during the next 12 years.
Mayor Bill Peduto announced the commitment to the 17 U.N. sustainability goals Friday, saying they identify the most important issues facing the globe -- poverty, hunger, climate change, education, gender equality and health, among them.
He said the goals will help inform coordinated and collaborative programs and partnerships with universities and nonprofit, business and civic sectors, and establish the city as a leader in achieving a more sustainable and equitable future.
Working with stakeholders across the city, these goals will allow us to aid the residents who need our help now and the future generations of Pittsburghers to come, said Mr. Peduto, who last month attended a U.N. meeting in New York City on regional sustainability with representatives of Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, the University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Foundation.
He also met with Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City, which last year became the first city in the world to formally adopt the goals. Mr. Peduto said Los Angeles is expected to sign on to the sustainability goals by the end of the year.
The city this year created an Office of Equity, which partners with non-governmental organizations to promote policies to improve livability and resilience in city neighborhoods. As such, the city said in a news release, it will be the first U.S. city to measure the success of its comprehensive and neighborhood planning based on its alignment with the U.N. goals.

PING!
Woo hoo! Raises in salaries and benefits for everyone! In Pittsburgh government, that is.
And to meet these goals just who will they be stealing the money from? A whole bunch of rich stupid over educated liberals will donate to Carnegie Mellon to do all their research? How stupid. And Pittsburgh is such a beautiful city actually it is about as close to being like Cincinnati as any other City. Apparently their leadership in Pittsburgh is just as stupid as the leadership in Cincinnati.
So they’re going to use public funds for these subversive acts? To hell with them! I’d bet there are some of those taxpayers are against this despotic act. Fight!

Are there 12 years left on the AOC clock?
Anyone ever studied these “United Nations Sustainable Development Goals?” They are actually designed to reduce and control population numbers through poverty and hunger as the end result.
Oh, trust me, they’ll be moving those clock hands back for the next hundred years. And then AOC will retire and her clone will take over her seat in Congress.
The Enemy Within
Basically communist utopian dreams. Reality like Venezuela is much harsher.
Wonderful. “Bike Lane Bill” has already messed up city traffic with all of the bicycle lanes that no one uses and had City Council pass gun control ordinances that will be thrown out soon by the Commonwealth Court, so why not go full on crazy with this idea?
Since when is the stinking corrupt U.N. making the standards for the U.S.? Only for libtard mayors.
Woke zombies infest the host organization, bloat it, and then destroy it in a bloody mess.
“Goal 1 End poverty in all its forms everywhere”
Jesus said the poor will always be with you.
How different all of life would be if more of us would listen to him.
This mayor is a typical LIB lunatic . What blatant stupidity .
This mayor is a typical LIB lunatic . What blatant stupidity .
Nobody voted for that, I betcha.
While they are talking about what the weather is going to be like a hundred years from now, guess what they aren’t talking about?
Failing schools. Failing roads and failed infrastructure. Unfunded pension systems. Corruption. Crime, drugs, the list is endless, all those things that are actually in their sphere of direct responsibility, what they are tasked to do, and under leftist control over the decades have failed miserably. No surprise they want to change the subject, and yet somehow look busy.
