EPA alleges city (San Francisco) dumped sewage into ocean, violating Clean Water Act
SF Examiner ^ | 10/02/19

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday accused the city of San Francisco of violating the Clean Water Act by allegedly dumping untreated wastewater into oceans.

In a letter to San Francisco Public Utilities Commission General Manager Harlan Kelly, Regional EPA Administrator Michael Stoker said the city is failing to operate and properly maintain its wastewater collection facilities and failing to comply with water quality standards, among other violations.

The letter alleged the city discharged some two billion gallons of untreated sewer water into the ocean annually.

“The failure to properly operate and maintain the city’s sewage collection and treatment facilities creates public health risks. For example, lack of proper operation and maintenance has caused force main and pump station failures that have diverted substantial volumes of raw and partially-treated sewage to flow across the beaches and into the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean,” Stoker wrote.

I guess the city streets were full and no other place to dump the stuff.

All that Clean Water Act stuff is for we serfs in flyover country, not the Nobility in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, etc. It's all the fault of the serfs.

So you serfs get tiny toilets, don't water your garden, and disconnect the ice maker in your fridge. Most of all, stop sending your sewage across the Rockies to San Francisco.

Leftists aren’t satisfied just to live in their own sewer; they insist on pumping it out everywhere else too.

SF is a good start, but last I knew it had the fourth filthiest beaches in the state...

Looks to me like every coastal major metro in CA is dumping raw sewage into the ocean.

“Some are activists who are openly promoting all this leftist decadence and madness. These are not bad people. They are good people, intelligent and educated.”

Good write-up Savage. I question the intelligence & education of such people. Degrees are no guarantee of being educated / intelligent. Knowledge is one thing, what one does with that knowledge (common sense and wisdom) is another. The reaction of some of the leftists to those who question their theories (which they take as fact) and “knowledge”, and patently failed application thereof, does not indicate honesty or respect for others, and I am being polite here. This in turn has polarized our society as wey now have no opportunity to learn to live together, to freely exchange ideas, because of the way institutionalized left attacks others - who wants to subject themselves to the madness?

Freedom includes responsibility, honesty, and self-control. You have family, and can’t all be the same. Same here, and we value those relationships over the politics, and learn from each other. I have some dem friends too, but in all these relationships there is honesty, respect. The wrong people have access to the levers of government, business, major media, and education - and access to the microphones 24 hrs a day. That has a negative effect on the rest of us.

PS - Thanks for doing the right thing on the septic system. When I lived in Montreal in the late 70s/early 80s, I learned to my disbelief that the city had no sewage treatment plants other than dumping all waste into the St Lawrence River, which is a large body of water! I hope things have changed there.

Everything that you have said is true.

I too question the intelligence of the leftists. Never are they wise. Some certainly are of only mediocre intelligence, though they might have acquired advanced degrees. The world is full of educated fools. The education systems of the Western nations have deteriorated into indoctrination centers, which indoctrinate and do not educate; freedom of inquiry, the free exchange of ideas, the quest for truth for its own sake are all suppressed ruthlessly.

However, some highly intelligent people are psychotic, and the higher the intelligence, the more obdurate the psychosis.

I think many leftists actually suffer from a mass psychosis.

One of my relatives is highly intelligent and extremely well educated, and he behaves like someone who is psychotic.

I encountered a highly intelligent, well educated psychotic patient in a psychiatric hospital when I was in medical school who carried a spoon which she placed over various parts of her body during the conversation.

I asked her what she was doing.

She said that the hospital telephone operator was bombarding her with cosmic rays and she used the spoon to block them. "I think she's just beastly to do it," she said.

I said to her: "You're an intelligent, educated woman. When all your doctors, when everyone else tells you that this is a psychotic delusion, why don't you believe them?

Her facial expression and her entire demeanor were suddenly lost in confusion and discomfort, as she considered this and thought about it. Then suddenly, comfort resumed, and she almost stammered: "If only they would all leave me alone, I'd be okay."

It was as if, for a moment, her intellect caused her to understand the delusion for what it is but that more energy than she could muster was required to sustain the understanding and her only comfort was to sink back into the delusion.

She continued the spoon activity.

This was NOT because of the Lack of maintenance, They Did it INTENTIONALLY and all City Leaders should be held Criminally Liable. Just like they would do to a private citizen

Wait. What are the penalties for violating a government "Act"? And who is going to be arrested?

HA! Riiiight. Nobody. Some poor schmuck farmer can be arrested and jailed for digging a hole to collect rain water on his propt but a governmental agency walks away with impunity for actually harming the environment.

Good points ... indoctrination versus education and the correlation between some with high intelligence and an accompanying mental condition. (The brain is a fascinating organ... I say that from a non-medical background). I look forward to more of your posts out here.

>It would probably cost $500 billion to fix it.

No problem. Plenty of rich folk to tax in SF: Pelosi, Feinstein, Silicon Valley lefties... Be sure to include a large tax on exiting SF so as not to spread its pollution to the rest of the country.

When they use firehoses to clean off the streets (which, the addicts use as their toilet), and the firehoses are used to clean the filth into the storm sewer, and then the storm sewers dump into the ocean and rivers, what did they think was happening?

Kommiefornia! Leaders of the free world in environmental consciousness. Kommiefornia! Leading the world in polluting the environment!

Typical.

I would guess every FReeper had the same thought when reading this. Make sure the ocean water is clean but we don’t give a hoot about the city’s streets/sidewalks.

I wonder. $500 billion seems a high number. Milwaukee had a similar problem in the 1970s when I was living there. The solution was a “big dig” for storm water retention so storm caused overflows could be retained in massive underground chambers and sent to the sewage treatment plant only after the storm surges were over.

I just plucked that number out of the air. But think about it. There’s only one sewer pipe in the city. They’d have to dig up every single street to install the second pipe and reroute the big collector pipes to different destinations. Rather hard to do in a built-out city.

So BIG contracts for construction unions needed. The only, liberal think, problem I see is where do you put all the homeless while their streets are torn up.
