ormer national security adviser John Bolton on Monday said he does not believe North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will give up his nuclear weapons in a deal with the United States.
North Korea has not made a strategic decision to give up nuclear weapons, Bolton said at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in his first public remarks since leaving the Trump administration.
In fact, I think the contrary is true. I think the strategic decision that Kim Jong Un is operating through is that he will do whatever he can to keep a deliverable nuclear weapons capability and to develop and enhance it further.
Kim may make some concessions, Bolton added, but under current circumstances, he will never give up the nuclear weapons voluntarily.
Bolton, who was ousted as national security adviser last month amid policy disagreements with President Trump and personality clashes with other administration officials, did not mention Trump by name in his address Monday.
He also repeatedly declined to discuss specifics of his time in the administration, saying he has a self-imposed restriction on doing so, and declined to answer a question on whether bromance diplomacy is the best approach to North Korea.
But the arguments Bolton laid out in his speech are in contradiction to the presidents approach at brokering a nuclear deal with North Korea.

Thanks, John, you’re a big help.
They may now that you are history.
RE: They may now that you are history.
Alas, Hating on John Bolton isn’t going to change reality. I believe he is right.
Translation:
I did everything I could to start WW3 but kept getting outsmarted by Trump, now he fired me and I am continuing My Jihad on America and am begging our enemies and friends around the world to GO TO WAR with the USA, I am a Traitor!
Well, certainly not now, after assessing that the democrats are just as venomous and backstabbing as they, themselves, are.
Wonderful. Puts his ego before his love of country.
Could Bolton have been the “Blabber”?
The above translation sounds like Adam Schiff’s translation of Trump’s phone transcripts with Zelensky.
While I like Trumps new approach of economic warfare as a first option vs military warfare (the old approach wasn’t working), I share Bolton’s view that NK cant be trusted to give up its nukes any more than China can be trusted to trade fairly or Iran can be trusted to not export terrorism. So the solution space is still very limited.
Captain Obvious. NK and China will be playing their games long after Trump’s gone.
Same thing with Iran.
RE: Could Bolton have been the Blabber?
Blabber of what exactly?
Thank you, Captain Obvious.
Looks like he found a new employer, and it’s not North Korea.
RE: Thank you, Captain Obvious
If you read other posts in this thread, some FReepers don’t believe this is obvious.
And Rats will continue to collude with and support our country’s enemies at every opportunity.
I would disagree with them on that. Kim will not give up his nukes. He has no reason to give them up and every reason to hang on to them.
I’m not being rude or sarcastic to you - you can believe he’s right all you want, but he’s no longer employed by Trump, and thus has no authority to make any negotiations on behalf of Trump or the country.
What ever happened to ex politicos leaving office and STFU?
I mean-if they’re not held to an official protocol on that, then it’s certainly the ‘right thing’ to do!
