GOP Leadership Memo Suggests Senate Cannot Block Trial If House Votes To Impeach Trump
Huffpost ^ | Sept 28 2019 | Mary Papenfuss

The Republican leadership issued a memo Saturday clarifying that the Senate must take action if the House of Representatives approves articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. The statement came in response to concerns that the Senate could simply refuse to hold a trial.

“There is no way we could somehow bar the doors and prevent the managers from presenting the articles to the Senate,” stated the memo, which was obtained by HuffPost. “The rules of impeachment are clear on this point.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also said as much in a March interview with NPR: “If it [impeachment] were to happen, the Senate has no choice. If the House were to act, the Senate immediately goes into a trial.”

"The" voters? I think not. If most voters lack enough common sense to know that the Trump Administration and the more sane voters should be harassed no more, much more difficult times are in front of us."

They are sometimes refered to as fence sitters for a reason.

And yes, there are a lot of ignorant voters out there and yes our country does hang in the balance.

First of all, Justice Roberts “could” declare that the whole shebang is unworthy of proceeding.

“The indictment (Impeachment) is so phony and without weight that Senator McConnell will quash the bogus Articles into oblivion with a Senate vote on the Merits.”

... IF he has 50 votes. Let’s hope he does.

In the end, all that matters is what those with the most, biggest, baddest weapons think is “legal.”

Do you really think a majority of the US military will side against Trump?

The House is the grand jury, the Senate is where the trail is held.

If the Senate won’t hold a trial, nobody’s going to stop them.

One of the companies Biden invested for China was charged with stealing nuclear secrets from the U.S.

Hunter Buden never registered as a foreign agent.

I’m quite certain that law only pertains to Republicans. Democrats don’t need to register as foreign agents. See Podesta.

A trial would mean witnesses and cross examinations.

It'll never happen

At this point I think they all want Trump gone so they can get rid of the headache and get back to lining their pockets by selling off this country to China

100% truth.

My theory is that the Senate ALWAYS intended on voting on removal from office if Trump were impeached in the House, but McConnell didn’t want to give that away.

What the Dems WANTED was McConnell was to say that there would be no trial in the Senate (great talking point for 2020), but given the non-existent ‘evidence’ of crimes, having the trial and then the vote is MUCH BETTER than not voting, as that leaves the Democrats trying to make a non-existent case.

As to the results of the vote. It will be close to 50 for and 50 against in the Senate, FAR SHORT of the 2/3’s needed to take Trump out. Senator Doug Jones of Alabama is the only Democrat that will have to think very hard before he votes to convict, as that will likely end his career (he’s up next year), and Manchin will have to give it some thought too, if he wants to be viable in the future for anything either in WV, or national. For Republicans, maybe 3 to 5 of them vote to convict, but no more. For the vast majority of Republicans, they know voting to convict, at this point is the end of their careers in politics...that simple.

The smart, but risky move, would to declare that the Senate will take up the “TRIAL” after the 2020 election is finished in order to allow the electorate to have a say. Use the Garland rational. If PDJT wins the election then the electorate has decided that the article of impeachment are of no concern to them.

The risk is that for 14 months the Dems and MSM will be 24/7 with off the wall allegations and spin. The Senate could counter that by holding hearings concerning the specific facts behind the articles of impeachment, somewhat like a trial court holding pre-trial hearing to determine if the charges will go forward.

In this context, the Senate would review the House’s Articles of Impeachment and vote whether they want their time spent in a trial or not. If the Articles are shabby and partisan, chances are the Senate will say no-go.

I wouldn't be too sure of that as I worry about these:

Murkowski

Collins

Romney

Isackson

Paul

The Never-Trumpers will try to sit out, in order that the 2/3 present become Democrats.

In that case, buy lamp-post futures.

Hold a trial if it comes to that....this way they can call all the colluders to testify and expose them for the liars they are.

There is no reason the “colluders and liars” can’t be compelled to testify now in the GOP controlled Senate. That they are not can only mean the GOP Senate wants POTUS impeached by the House Democrats.

Make no mistake: this ongoing coup is bipartisan in nature

Agreed. Such a trial would also afford the opportunity to expose the conspirators. The accuser would need to testify. Those who informed him would need to testify. Others in the WH would have to be identified.. Members of the IC leadership would be asked about. At that time, the breadth of the embedded deep state conspiracy would be revealed. Maybe.
