'This brave young woman essentially sent a message to the future'
Senior editor of the Atlantic and NPR news analyst Jack Beatty commended Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg for sending a powerful "message to the future" on climate change.
"I think her jaccuse will echo through the years," Beatty told host David Folkenflik.
Folkenflik said the young activist "drove conservatives, Republicans nuts" and that she's making a valid point because she and others her age stand to inherit a world affected by climate change. Beatty agreed and went further in praising her vision.
"This brave young woman essentially sent a message to the future: We care, you should care," Beatty said. "And when she said, you're talking about fairy tales of eternal economic growth'in 2018 a report from 13 federal agencies warned that failure to rein in warming could shave 10 percent off the country's economy in this century."
"In other words, she's right."
Beatty noted that the governments of leading industrial nations did not make any commitments on reducing pollution at the United Nations.
"China, the biggest polluter, made no new commitments at the summit, the U.S. was quiet, other countries said little," Beatty said.
Thunberg grabbed headlines for sailing to New York to plead her case at the United Nations Climate Action Summit. She even drew the attention of President Donald Trump, who said, "She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."
Thunberg sent the media into a tizzy when she changed her Twitter bio to reflect Trump's sarcastic comment, a move reporters declared an "A-plus troll of the president.
She did make a valid point because all mankind will continue to be affected by climate change, as we have since the beginning of time.
Climate change is caused by the Sun, not mankind.
If you’re the climate, you change.
It’s what you do.
GEICO
Grumpy cat is yesterday.
Defund NPR
The echo of laughter.
I am really disgusted that the npr gets even one cent of taxpayers’ money to fund this cesspool spew of further lunacy. greta is an abused child who is mentally unstable. Maybe she will ax-murder her abusive leftist parents sooner than later?
People who say they believe in man-made climate change are idiots, liars, or both.
Well, according to them it can only echo for 12 years.
I will recall her forever as the youngest person afflicted with Permanent Resting Bitch Face.
She reminded another generation of the evils of Nazi youth!
Just like Obama’s Cairo speech....
By Halloween it will be “Greta who?”
Many might remember the rock opera “Tommy” by the Who. Substitute Greta for Tommy and “Climate Change” for the pin ball machine.
Polite applause and minor back slapping and right back into the graft work needing to be done. Oh, and how to further lighten peoples pockets based on CLIMAGEDDON! fears and the tears of a mentally deficient child. Can you say child abuse?
Eyes aren’t dead enough.
She should do a world tour to China and India.
She should do a world tour to China and India.
...or at least for the next fifteen minutes.
Greta Thunberg will echo through the years like Cindy Sheehan...or the Dixie Chicks....
NPR was always a joke, but it’s really out of the closet now.
So far I have failed miserably getting my own grandkids, who spout witless child nonsense, to give up their cell phones. We haven't yet broached the subject of giving up sports, movies and other after school activities because such require fossil fuels used by supportive adults to get them there.
The air conditioning in my car broke this most recent summer. My grandson commented on that, not in a complementary way.
I really want to see some of these brats have to live the luddite life for about two days without saying, "Never mind."
