Mayor Pete Buttigieg expressed his dissatisfaction with the concept of carrying a gun after serving in Afghanistan.
Over time, I realized having a gun made me feel smaller, not bigger, he said during a conversation about guns with a BuzzFeed reporter as part of his bus tour in Iowa.
The mayor was asked about his feelings on guns as a veteran who served in Afghanistan in the Navy Reserves but apparently did not engage in combat.
Earlier in September, Buttigieg criticized men who had their sense of manhood wrapped up in owning a gun.
[I]f it gets to where your sense of manhood is wrapped up in owning a gun, I think thats where our culture is on the wrong track, Buttigieg said in an interview with TMZ Live.

Seabees were needed. I think Petey was a lawyer. Probably needed to prosecute SEALS for being too mean to the enemy.

If that is true, then do away with your entire armed escort.

I don’t think I’ve EVER considered myself “smaller or bigger” when in possession of a gun.
A gun is a tool. No more so that a hammer or a shovel.
If Butt-edge-edge is fantasizing about his tool being bigger or smaller when in possession of a gun, well, that’s his partner’s problem.

Well imagine having your sense of manhood wrapped up in not owning a gun. Or having your actual manhood wrapped up in..well, never mind.

Properly, when you carry a gun it *should* make you feel smaller. Why?
1) A gun DOES NOT impart dominance or control to a situation. Every good police officer knows this. And those who think it does are the first to come up short.
2) A gun is not a versatile tool. Its three modes are holstered, brandished and firing. But many situations need much more than that, which is why many police love Tasers.
3) A concealed gun has many advantages over a brandished gun. But these advantages last only as long as it remains concealed. So a gun carrier wants to use body language to help protect that concealed status.
4) Trained gun users do not want to stick out from the crowd. Instead they want to blend in, to be “small.”

In my entire 4 years in the USAF, I was only issued a rifle once. (It was actually rare for anyone in my AFSC to have a firearm, but there was a circumstance that required it.)
How did I feel?
Up to the responsibilities of carrying a firearm. That's it.
