Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged a ban on “military-grade” semiautomatic rifles in an attempt to redirect his campaign after his blackface controversy. City News reports that Trudeau announced the rifle ban on Friday in Greektown, Toronto, the area of the city in which a gunman shot 15 people, killing two, last year.
Trudeau said, “We know you do not need a military-grade assault weapon – one designed to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time – to take down a deer.”
His ban includes a two-year amnesty for current owners of the rifles. He also wants a buyback so the government can pay owners when they hand their rifles over.
CBC quoted Trudeau saying, “People are dying. Families are grieving. Communities are suffering. So we’re going to do more and we’re going to do better. Thoughts and prayers are just not going to cut it. The choice could not be clearer: Liberals are for tougher gun laws, Conservatives are for weaker gun laws.

This is actually not as bad as it sounds, as any current owner now possesses a “prohibited” firearm, and they can now buy *OTHER* prohibs!
That means I could buy pretty much anything available here, so long as I keep my PAL and registrations current.
The RCMP are the final arbiters of prohib, and they regally screwed the pooch when they included the Ruger magazine in the prohib file...

And that right there is a gross violation of the Second Amendment. We shouldn't be arguing that semi-auto AR15s aren't "military grade weapons". It's a stupid argument from either side. We should be reminding people that 2A specifically protects "military grade weapons".

The law to ban and seize upon owners death, AR-15s, may not stand up in court, because there is no factual connection between “death by firearm” statistics and the AR-15. The vast majority of gun deaths in Canada are by hand gun.
There is no reason to ban AR-15s other than emotion not supported by fact. Therefore any law banning the AR-15 is consequently capricious and arbitrary, and will not stand the test of litigation and time.
There are thousands of AR-15 owners in Canada. To seize them upon the owners death, they will have to find them, a doubtful proposition, actually, almost impossible to enforce without payment for such expropriated property; and justifiable reason for owners and their survivors to hide them from the authorities according to various Provincial personal property laws designed to prevent the arbitrary, capricious seizure of personal property by government.
We have been through all this before over the hundreds of years of common law history. The British government tried to disarm the Scots but the swords, spears and pikes were hidden and could not be seized from the Highlands. So the people of Canada, many who are Highlander descendents, know what to do to combat a vexatious and capricious government from taking their property.The examples from our history are legion. Canadians know what to do exactly if this law passes.
