White House, DOJ Gun Control Proposal Includes Universal Background Checks
Breitbart ^ | 18 September 2019 | Awr Hawkins

A White House and Department of Justice proposal containing gun control ideas is now available for public consumption.

CNN White House correspondent Elaina Plott tweeted a copy of the document:

The document clearly shows the White House and DOJ adopting the structure of the Manchin-Toomey gun control bill as a guide: “Consistent with the Manchin-Toomey-draft legislation, a background check requirement would be extended to all commercial sales, including sales at gun shows.”

The document shows the Manchin-Toomey background checks–i.e., universal background checks–would include issuance of a “bill of sale” and the preservation of a “chain of title.” Sellers would have the option of preserving record of the sale or allowing a Federal Firearm License holder to record the sale.

Living proof, excessive gun control has no impact on mass murders.

"I’m sure that would be spun as an invitation to white nationalists to commit mass shootings."

Not by any sane person.

HEL-lo! Corrupting and/or eliminating (their goal) the Second Amendment cannot be compared to governmental agencies. 2A is specifically addressed in the Constitution, and it is specifically specific.

The other stuff is crap, but not forbidden or mandated by the Constitution. Their existence does make life annoying, and even possibly destructive. But they don’t disarm us so we’re sitting ducks for RAT administrations to come.

Point #3 in the "Background" section is completely false.

Commercial sales, by definition, ONLY occur with an FFL as the seller.

Mr. President, SOMEBODY IN YOUR ADMINISTRATION IS LYING TO YOU.

No more gun control. NO government interference in the sale of private property.

What gun control laws do you propose to REPEAL?

You are NOT the lone voice to repeal NFA and GCA.

I thought I was the lone voice ...

The secrecy by himself and the NRA is concerning, just like obamacare... we don’t know whats in it.
Why isn’t he releasing it to his supporters if it is only “common sense”. Anybody with even a passing familiarity with history knows this is pure socialism. A march toward dictatorial rule.
Haven’t we had enough.. leaving our children and grandchildren defenseless against criminals and government is absolute insanity.
Imagine the dominoes falling around the world when he signs this.

A modest proposal:

- Carry a gun while committing a crime - minimum 10 years.
- Shoot a gun while committing a crime - life in prison, no parole.
- Kill someone with a gun while committing a crime - death penalty.

In the era of Obama, I worried about horrible gun control laws, and none came.

Yet in the era of Trump, I was sure horrible gun control laws would not come, but now I have to worry about them.

It boggles the mind.

The reason we appear to have two parties, is because there are some things democrats can get away with, that republicans cannot, and vice versa. This is one of the reasons they switch who is in power occasionally, to make sure the globalist agenda is always advanced forward.

Then why have I been the lone voice to repeal the NFA-34 for so long? Suddenly the 2A is sacrosanct, but the treasons of ‘34, ‘68, 94, etc. were OK?

I've long supported the repeal of almost the entirety of section 922. That is the position we should start from and negotiate from there.

For all of the panty twisters, here and on other threads....

From the original report, by Amber Athey, that the Breitbart articles references....

President Donald Trump told reporters Wednesday night that he is “throwing a lot of ideas out” on gun control and has not seen the document being shared with GOP congressmen and senators on Capitol Hill.

The Daily Caller reported Wednesday that Attorney General Bill Barr and White House Legislative Affairs Director Eric Ueland were meeting with Republicans and handing out a document that contained a proposal for expanded background checks consistent with the Manchin-Toomey bill.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley later told The Atlantic that the president had not signed off on the proposal and that the document was not created by the White House.

The president confirmed during an Air Force One trip that he has not seen that document and is keeping his options open when it comes to gun control legislation.

“We’re looking at many different things. That was a news conference that was given and we’re throwing out many different ideas to Republicans and Democrats, see where they all come out. And that was the document you were talking — I haven’t seen that document,” he said. “But we’re throwing a lot of ideas out, but we’re always going to be watching extremely closely the Second Amendment.”

Trump said the document was put out by AG Barr, who is an “expert on guns and gun control,” and noted that some of the ideas being discussed “are liked and some aren’t liked.”

The background check document received a chilly reception from conservatives in Congress and the National Rifle Association (NRA), threatening the likelihood that Trump would endorse the proposal. Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who sources say was one of the individuals who met with Barr and Ueland, said in a radio interview that he would vote ‘no’ on the Manchin-Toomey legislation, which closely resembles the background check document:

“I have two major problems with it. One, there is zero evidence that it would do anything to stop these mass murders, that’s not how these criminals are getting these guns, it wouldn’t have stopped the mass murders we have seen across the country. But two, the instant you mandate that every person-to-person sale have a federal review and regulation, the only way to enforce that is a national gun registry, and a gun registry is how a confiscation plan is carried out.”

On continuing efforts to pass some kind of gun control legislation, Trump said, “I think there are certain Democrats that really want to do it, and I would like to do it and Republicans would like to. We have to get something that we all agree on.”

You wouldn't accept such weasely, evasive talk from Obama. Why are you accepting it from Trump? Because you Want To Believe, that's why.

Tell you what. You need to believe in reality, and the reality is that Trump isn't all that solid on the 2nd Amendment - no matter what he says. Now he's playing clueless.....smh.

There is no way in hell that Trump didn't know what his legislative advisor was pitching to the Republicans. No, he made sure that his name wasn't anywhere on it, but that's how they plausibly deny the president's involvement.

It's SOP, and most well informed adults know how the game works.

Okay, whatever you say, Windy.

I’m good with what POTUS has done for the country, thus far, and I trust his instincts over any other Republican candidate that was in the running, in 2016. That is reality.

Wish you all the best.
