It was meant to be the moment when Democrats started to knit a narrative of presidential malfeasance that many of them hope will trigger impeachment.
But it turned into an iconic Trump-era spectacle that served instead to show how the White House and its acolytes have made a mockery of the checks and balances of the Washington system.
A farcical House Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday featuring Corey Lewandowski, President Donald Trump's ex-campaign manager, emphasized how Democrats are struggling to hold Trump to account.
Party leaders were left to explain why they had not been more nimble in questioning a witness loaded for bear, since everyone knew Lewandowski would show up with the intention of causing havoc . After hours of frustrating cross-examination that one of their number, Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia, compared to "a fish being cleaned with a spoon," Democrats were left with a conundrum: how to use televised hearings to tease out damning passages of the Mueller report when Trump and his gang are determined to turn them into a circus
Their broader strategy of using their House majority to slowly build a pattern of presidential abuse of power and obstruction of justice has yet to reach a critical mass. On the evidence of Tuesday, it may never do so.
It was a great day for the White House, however.

Should have mentioned swalwell . Corey used Mueller line of having swalwell read what’s in the report. At one point asked swalwell why he wouldnt do for Corey what they did for mueller
Read it closer. They try to shift the blame to the White House making a “mockery” of “checks and balances” (as if the Democrats are pure in heart), and then further blaming Lewendowski for wreaking “havoc”. I read over some of the transcripts, it sounds to me that he simply wasn’t having any of their bullshit. Keep in mind too it takes extra effort and pretzel-like logic delusion to write something that convoluted.

At one point, IIRC and I don’t remember the exact words but Lewendowski made a comment about the committee members that were “challenged” intellectually on the democratic side and Nadler was forced to say none of his committee democrats were “challenged”...and ALL I could think of was Hank Johnson in a past hearing asking an admiral if putting more people on Guam would tip the island over from the extra weight.

Lewendowski made boobs out of the democratic members because they were boobs to start with. They were ill prepared, and angry at a witness who played their asinine game better than they did. The sound bites were spoiled, and Nadler lost control.
It was funny and even the media could not save it for Nadler.

Hank Johnson is always entertaining and occasionally less than insane. Recognizing how bad this hearing looked was one of his rare coherent moments.
He's already "pinned down" by the contents of the Mueller report. The DEMs say the Mueller report makes the case.
Corey didn't dispute anything of substance in the Mueller report. The only dispute he had was whether or not his "taking dictation" for the message to sessions was the first or only time he has taken dictation from Trump. That doesn't hurt the case.
Lewandowski’s supposedly on CNN sometime after 8 am....should be fun.
