New York City prosecutors have subpoenaed President Donald Trump’s tax returns, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Monday.
Manhattan District Attorney’s Cyrus Vance Jr.’s office recently sent a subpoena to Trump’s accounting firm seeking the last eight years of state and federal tax returns for Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, the person said.
The person was not authorized to speak publicly about the matter and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Asked about the subpoena as he left the White House on Monday, Trump said: “I don’t know anything about it.” A lawyer for the Trump Organization, Marc Mukasey, said he is “evaluating the situation and will respond as appropriate.” …

Can a judge stop it, as there is no legitimate reason or evidence to justify it?
I recall an expression, to "quash a subpoena." So I'll bet the answer is yes. Was there a way for the DA to judge-shop sufficiently to prevent getting quashed? I don't know.

Need to fire the prosecutors for abuse of their authority.
A state DA must present incontrovertible, hard evidence to a judge that a crime has been committed to get access to those documents. Even that ruling can be challenged all the way to SCOTUS because a federal officer (president) is the potential defendant.

Agreed, but I was wondering if this subpoena was on that issue, or if they were fishing under a different excuse.
