Ric Ocasek, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer whose popular new-wave band, The Cars, left a profound impact on rock music, was found dead in his New York City apartment on Sunday, a police spokesman said. Ocasek was 75.

Ocasek's estranged wife, Paulina Porizkova, found him unresponsive Sunday afternoon at his home in Manhattan's Gramercy Park neighborhood, sources told the New York Post, adding that he apparently died of natural causes.

The Cars' self-titled 1978 debut album was a smash hit, boosted by singles including "Just What I Needed." The album helped lead the way for new wave's influence on rock music throughout the following decade.

I’m largely unaffected by celebrity deaths. The vast majority are leftists that want me dead anyway.

I don’t know what his politics were or whether he wanted you dead, but with a net worth around $30 million and living in Manhattan, I doubt that he was one of us Deplorables. His kid does look sort of homo but you have to remember it is New York City. The pasty complexion and lack of body hair are probably hereditary.

I thought they were married forever. It appears they didn’t divorce. When they got married, he just disappeared - both of them did.

I always admired them for that.

Of late, he was doing some producing.

“Catchy and radio friendly” is what I think too. They also played well on MTV (remember that? I don’t think anyone watches it any more).

I wasn’t much of a Stones fan until 20 or more years after they started. By then they had accumulated a huge library of music and now I crank up most of their tunes when I hear them on my classic rock radio station. Surprisingly, I seldom hear Beatles tunes any more...but I’ve only been listening to music when I’m on the road...which isn’t very often these days.

The first Cars’ album, Side One was the AM side, and Side Two was the FM side.

The Beatles didn’t age well musically.

I can only take so much of it.

Not sure if you mean the music they made as The Beatles, or their solo stuff that came out after.

As a band, there are only probably two or three tunes I don’t like. Solo stuff....eh, there are a few good tunes, but no great albums.

As the Beatles. I can take McCartney for the most part. The Beatles stuff, for me, just gets tired fast. Led Zeppelin does too.

YouTube is the new MTV. Basically MTV-on-demand.

You have to put up with some ads but I think there's an ad-free option with a monthly payment of about $12. The ads don't bother me all that much though.

Anyway, all those MTV-era videos (and millions more) are on YouTube in all their glory.

True. Much of their music sounds dated. And some of those songs are super-super annoying. Such as "Yellow Submarine" or "Back in the USSR". Yet I can put on any Stones album from that era, like "Let It Bleed" or "Beggar's Banquet", and let it play all the way through without skipping any tracks.

Sirius put up an all-Beatles channel about a year ago and it got old really fast.

What they need on Sirius is a Stones channel or even a Dylan channel. Maybe in Ric's honor, they can do a Cars channel for a week or so.

Okay...I have a funny story.

I work in the HealthCare field...

Had a stroke patient...that was very funny.

I over heard the kitchen girl asking her what she wanted for dinner that evening. She asked..."Do you like meatloaf?"

The patient said..."No, but I love Rod Stewart!!"

I cracked up laughing...........

I agree with you on Led Zeppelin. I’m very tired of them. Also Steve Miller Band. Their tunes get a lot of air play here, and I’m burnt out.

I used to be a huge Beatles fan. Now I find I only care to listen to the material from 1965-1969 (and no "Let it Be"). I don't care for the "yeah, yeah, yeah" stuff any more. But they sure had their fingers on the pulse of what people wanted to hear in the early 60's.

I actually told my wife a couple of weeks ago - even though metal has always been my favorite genre of music, if I had to list my favorite, most listened to band, it would be the Cars. I still have several of their early songs on my playlist and listen to them almost every day.

Moving in Stereo has some of the most recognizable and commercially used songs of the last 40 years.

Cars and Bejamin Orr, plus some others could play on that channel.

They were something else. Part of the Summertime soundtrack of my teenage years. Glorious time to be a teenager.

Totally agree

Imagine hearing a song for literally the 5000th time.

I like the Sirius 80s channel, but really only get interested when they have their weekend countdown.

Lots of eclectic songs that never hit much higher than #40 on the Billboard list.

Bands I've never heard of, songs by big artists that just didn't get far.

Sometimes I will come home and look the songs up on You Tube.

Some, but not all are good.

When you are a multi-millionaire rock star, you can wear a women's blouse if you want to. And look cool while doing so.

I love the weekend countdown on Sirius 80s. Lot of gems rediscovered.

The big hits tend to get overplayed.
