The UAW announced Sunday morning that it would strike "effective at midnight tonight" after contract negotiations fell through.

During a press conference on Sunday, the union's vice president said it informed GM that its membership would follow through after the contract ended Saturday at 11:59 p.m..

"This is our last resort," said VP Terry Dittes.

A spokesman said the strike impacts about 48,000 UAW workers at GM plants across the country.

I worked for a supplier for a bit. Many of the UAW members believed they were robbed in 2008, and have been complaining about it for some time.

And do not forget that the Union is anti Trump, and have been tasked to tank him in Michigan.

That’s not a sustainable business plan.

For sure. Right now, almost all car makers have a glut of unsold vehicles. Even those that make better quality vehicles than Government Motors. Which is just about everybody.

Yeah, I was using “sedan” to differentiate “car” from “crossover”. But yeah, Ford says that thing is a ‘car’ and is one of only two ‘cars’ that they’re still making - the other being the Mustang.

I found it no more amenable than the admittedly not horrible Fiesta it more or less replaces.

I’ve owned several Nissans. They weren’t the boring ones. If they’re RWD, they’re not boring. If they’re FWD... not so much.

Yea the new Mazda’s are pretty sweet cars and reallly good looking too compared to the competition.
Unfortunately for me my 2010 Fully loaded Mazda 6 was totaled by a large dump truck two years ago... i really liked that car.
Now i’m driving a 2014 Camry with none of the features the Mazda had but it looks brand new, a great color (Cosmic grey) and i expect it to be trouble free for the foreseeable future.

I’m not a big Union guy, especially the too big to fail unions like UAW that have been in bed with government for years and have rigged the system to maintain their power and influence. Having said that, the question is - if you’re Trump and your job was to prevent our country from becoming a third world economy, what would be your first task? To take on Big Unions, or to reverse the exodus of jobs and treasure to China and other nations?

My hope is that after fair trade deals with the rest of the world have been instituted, Trump can turn his attention to the problem of undue union influence. In the mean time, this looks to me like the UAW doing their part to help bring on a recession before 2020 at the behest of their deep state masters.

Kilmer is usually right although my mom has a 7 year old one with 42K on it. She got a bulletin from GM warning it might start using oil more than normal around the 30K mark. So far no problems. I am guessing if she is still driving it 2 years from now everything under the sun will start falling apart.

Personally I boycott UAW stuff.

Kilmer had videos out saying Mazda’s auto trans were junk. Did you have auto and if so any problems before death-by-dump-truck?

Nissan has been owned by Renault, more or less, since early 2000’s. Although I see a lot more of their cars on the road their quality has sunk dramatically. I expect a flood of complaints on forums soon.

I agree. Something essentially clunky and heavy about American cars. Wife and I have driven only Japanese for decades. Does this make us unpatriotic?

Maybe, but only because it is run by two governments instead of one.

Turning on your car and having it start every morning is dull. So is reliable driving from point A to point B. The only thing I could never figure out about Nissan is why they offer such a crappy warranty on such a quality product.

Same reason as Toyota - because they didn’t have to offer a longer warranty to entice purchasers.
