Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned that President Trump will lose in 2020 if he cuts a deal with Democrats regarding gun control.
Roll Call reports that Cruz offered this observation while speaking to reporters at a Thursday breakfast. He contended that conservative voters will stay home if Trump and the Republicans as a whole cave to Democrat demands.
He was asked about the possibility of Trump making a deal with gun control stalwarts Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).
Cruz said, Were going to see record-setting Democratic turnout. The only element missing is demoralizing conservatives so they stay home. I hope we dont do that.
He also noted, If Republicans abandon the Second Amendment and demoralize millions of Americans who care deeply about Second Amendment rights, that could go a long way to electing a President Elizabeth Warren.
Cruz also suggested it would be a big mistake for Trump to voice support for the Democrats background check bill, saying, It would also be a serious mistake as a policy matter.

Bane...
Cruz made a mistake and changed his tune on vote of conscience and was quite clear he supported Trump.
If you are so delicate that anything Cruz says makes you melt, then don't read the thread. Good grief what a whiner you are.
Thanks, I did.
One of President Trump's greatest gifts to the nation was stopping a Jeb candidacy, with Cruz or Kasick as VP. hillary's campaign was so awful that we would've had to choose evil when neither choice was lesser.
JMHO
I understand the connection to the founders.
As a rational conservative pragmitist living in the present where the two parties determine the course of the nation, Conservatives must chose sides. They must chose the Republican side.
To acheive conservative goals, ideals, the effort must be made within the Republican party. It is hard enough working in the party. Staying outside, denouncing Republicans is a losing proposition. To insidt on narrow puritan ideas to the exclusion of all else might be sait to be princpled, but it is a losing course.
As an example, I cite crazy Bernie. He is a wacko puritan socialist. He has called himself an independent. He is wacko but not a fool. He knows that to succeed he must act on his wackoness within the Democrat party.
I am pissing in the wind because I know that many sanctimonious self righteous puritan conservatives put their own self esteem and principle above America.
Joe Manchin showed his true stripes. WV needs to flush this a-hole!
That’s twice now that you’ve sanctimoniously and self righteously slandered anyone who doesn’t agree with you.
You’re correct, you’re pissing into the wind
Make every effort to get conservatives nominated as Republican candidates, certainly. But in cases where that effort fails, there's nothing impractical about voting third party at least in those cases where one's vote won't affect the outcome - e.g. in solidly red or blue states for presidential elections, or when there genuinely isn't a dime's worth of difference between the Rino and the Rat.
I have no doubt a lot of idiots in the stupid party would like to pass some kind of gun control bill in order to ensure Trump won’t be re-elected.
If you think letting one of these democrats become president because of some little slight is a good idea, have at it.
You are wrong
By voting third party, by thinking third party, you place your self as a progressive democrat. You place your self above America
In actual effect, you are pretending to vote

Because you say so?
The possibility of us not voting, or voting third-party, is the only thing that keeps our candidates in check.
That includes President Trump.
But of course.
But also, history cannot be denied unless you foolishly believe to ignore
Specifically what history says it's impractical to vote third party even in those cases where one's vote won't affect the outcome - e.g. in solidly red or blue states for presidential elections, or when there genuinely isn't a dime's worth of difference between the Rino and the Rat?
Some alleged "conservatives" can't get enough GOPe Kool-Aid.
Thanks conservative98.
They all hate us.
If you want to defend yourself and you don’t implicitely trust devine government benevolence to do it, you’re crazy and you need “red flagging”
