insisting drivers are not central to the company’s operations.

Was Mr. West's nose growing when he said that?

Driverless cars are central to their operations, or soon will be.

Didn’t Obama push this B.S. too, saying franchise owners fell under the franchise parent as far as employees were concerned? Commies gota commie.

The bigger question is “Were the Mexifornian lawmakers fangs getting longer?”. Which we already know the answer.

Uber is one of those companies that looses money so they should just quit California. Make their customers holler and do the work convincing politicians.

California was pretty unanimous in their legislation. Rideshare workers are employees, Uber should be treating them as such, should be paying for their auto insurance and employee benefits, etc. I doubt California will be long alone in their move.

I use Uber, marvel that they've survived with the incredible turnover--everyone is always new. The company has skirted the whole contractor-vs.-employee relationship.

Idiot blue state doing what it does best......shutting down or running a business out of state.

Mr. West’s remarks themselves are dillusional but that is another issue.

Will this apply to the help? Will Nancy Pelosi now have to call her numerous maids and cooks along with her migrant labor on her vineyards full employees and give them full benefits?

“insisting drivers are not central to the company’s operations.”

Way to come out looking like a d!ck even when fighting California!

Please secede. We won’t stop you.

He is saying that Uber is a Digital Platform meet-up space that independent drivers and independent riders use to facilitate an agreed service. It’s much like Facebook and Twitter being digital platforms to share ideas and experiences.

>> arguing that drivers aren’t core to its ride-share business model.

Money is the core. rape and robbery is just a feature.

Farmers are not central to the operation of the Chicago Board of Trade, it’s just a market that enables sellers and buyers. Uber does the same thing.

It's a legal Hail Mary pass. Frankly I don't see what other options he's got.

I’m an independent broker doing courier work and I relish my independence.
I get asked to do runs not commanded to do runs.
My relationship is as a business with another business.

“the title of employee must be issued to any worker the company exerts control over in terms of performance of their task, or if the role carried out by the worker is central to the employer’s regular business.”

This definition would eliminate pretty much all independent contractors if applied to all commercial activity.

Uber has ignored the law and regulations from day one.... why would anyone expect them to obey new ones, when they never followed existing ones.

"control over terms of performance"

What the hell does that mean? They were hired to provide rides....and no more.

Seems to me that if Uber is willing to provide the app, the driver is willing to drive, and the customer is willing to pay the price, and there is competition, it’s a clean transaction.

The government should leave it alone.
