SNIP
Officials did not disclose the informants identity or new location, both closely held secrets. The persons life remains in danger, current and former officials said, pointing to Moscows attempts last year to assassinate Sergei V. Skripal, a former Russian intelligence official who moved to Britain as part of a high-profile spy exchange in 2010.
The Moscow informant was instrumental to the C.I.A.s most explosive conclusion about Russias interference campaign: that President Vladimir V. Putin ordered and orchestrated it himself. As the American governments best insight into the thinking of and orders from Mr. Putin, the source was also key to the C.I.A.s assessment that he affirmatively favored Donald J. Trumps election and personally ordered the hacking of the Democratic National Committee.
The informant, according to people familiar with the matter, was outside of Mr. Putins inner circle, but saw him regularly and had access to high-level Kremlin decision-making easily making the source one of the agencys most valuable assets.

They seem to have forgotten that the Russians also tried to hack into the RNC but were unsuccessful
Hey New York Times, your info is slightly inaccurate. Now shhhh!...don’t tell anyone! but he’s holed up in the penthouse of a Trump hotel, with Trumps own personal security guards guarding him with their lives and “shoot to kill” orders if a reporter gets too close...
And the obama/NYT compromise of this clandestine operation continues
Probably the ongoing investigation of democrat collusion with the IC to overthrow the US presidency has uncovered this source and this is a CYA operation
If the obama-democrats want him killed. Its because he knows too much
Something is not right about this episode. Why would it go public and endanger present operations by the CIA in Russia?
Why would it go public at all? Why did it need to go public? Why does he still have his name?
“This entire store is fiction. Russia did not interfere in the 2016 election. Just because some agent said they did doesnt make it so.”
If you look at things from Russia’s point of view it makes perfect sense to divide American society. Almost everyone believed Hillary would win the election in a land slide. What would be more logical than to try to weaken her. The election of a weak Hillary would seem to be the optimal outcome if I were in their place.
Once Trump wins everything changes, of course. Now a four year media circus attacking Trump is in Russia’s interest. The thing that actually surprises me is that their is not more evidence of that.
The Russians just outed him:
Oleg Smolenkov
In fact the Russian media identified him based on CNN report. There is a single high placed person missing from the Russian government related to foreign policy over last few years.
He went missing while on vacations in Montenegro with his family.
The feds opened the murder investigations over it but the case was closed once it was established that the man lives in ‘one of the Western countries’.
If so, how was I able to name him? CNN still hasn’t done that.
In fact the Russian media posted a story about his disappearance two years ago:
The”feds” you mention were Russians.
I guess 6 acres in Stafford, VA qualifies as “one of the Western countries”.
The CNN producer should receive a 4:40 am visit and be hauled off to an airplane and flown from place to place until thouroughly convinced to stop that crap.
A view of the landing at Guantanamo would be part of the journey.
CNN initially said ‘a person from Putin’s administration’ who was extracted from Russia some time ago and they said sources in US intelligence community confirmed it.
There were no names.
When Smolenkov disappeared in was all over the Russian media but nobody said he was a spy at the time.
The ‘feds’ are Russian SKR, true. They investigated it as possible murder but promptly closed the case upon finding his whereabouts.
I believe Russian Kommersant Daily was first to connect the dots and to suggest Smolenkov was the person US media is talking about.
Then CNN reported it following Kommersant allegations.
I might be wrong but it is how I got the timeline.
Putin’s office now admits the person is real but they don’t know if the allegations of espionage are true and they asked counterintelligence to investigate.
By the way, if you read in Russian there is another interesting take from Vzglyad:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/vz.ru/amp/politics/2019/9/10/997050.html
Russian media believes the leak is Brennan’s provocation based of Trump derangement syndrome.
In other words we gave them someone valuable in exchange for them giving us someone worthless.
