WASHINGTON Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday that Taliban overreached with a car bomb attack in Kabul that killed an American soldier, leading President Donald Trump to call off closely-held Afghanistan peace talks planned for Camp David.
Pompeo said the Trump administration has recalled envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, who has been negotiating with Taliban leaders for months in Qatar, and it will be up to the insurgent group whether talks will resume.
Pompeo said Trump wanted to look the Taliban leaders in the eye while Khalilzad worked to finalize an agreement that would allow the U.S. to start withdrawing troops. Pompeo defended Trumps planned talks, saying the presidential retreat in Maryland was an appropriate place, given that it had been the venue for Mideast peace negotiations and other diplomatic meetings.
Trump tweeted Saturday night that he canceled negotiations with the Taliban in the wake of Thursdays car bombing that killed an American soldier, a Romanian service member and 10 civilians in a busy diplomatic area near the U.S. Embassy in the Afghan capital. The bombing was one of many attacks by the Taliban in recent days. Sgt. 1st Class Elis A. Barreto Ortiz, 34, was the fourth U.S. service member killed in the past two weeks in Afghanistan.
Pompeo acknowledged that the attack was not the first since the talks began and said the U.S. has been attacking the Taliban too. Pompeo said more than 1,000 Taliban have been killed in battle during the past 10 days alone, but he didnt elaborate so it was unclear whether they were killed by American airstrikes or by the Afghan security forces, which have been on the front lines since the U.S. ended its combat mission in 2014. The American forces now are training, advising and assisting the Afghan fighters.

The key metric, from the excerpt, is that over 1,000 Taliban have been killed in the last 10 days alone. That's not a small number. As Syria's Alawite leader Bashar Assad has discovered, there are unlimited numbers of Muslims willing to scream defiance, but a finite number who are actually willing to risk their lives in battle, whether as suicide bombers or in guerrilla attacks.
Obviously the Taliban can't be trusted one little bit as proven by their brazen attack that killed an American soldier.
So if this attack hadn’t happened, the US would have been hosting the Taliban on US soil during the week of 9/11?
While this may be going on,the media is not going to report any successes, now would be the time to help the Taliban understand there is only one way we will negotiate.
never negotiate with them

The universalism of Islam, in its all-embracing creed, is imposed on the believers as a continuous process of warfare, psychological and political, if not strictly military. . . . The Jihad, accordingly, may be stated as a doctrine of a permanent state of war, not continuous fighting. Majid Khadduri

Every single one of those Turdiban leaders would do anything possible to kill Trump. I dont want him within a thousand miles of them.
All the Taliban men in Afghanistan should be killed to end the war. Utter defeat is the only thing they understand.
All the Taliban men in Afghanistan should be killed to end the war. Utter defeat is the only thing they understand.
That entire region should be a smoldering, radioactive wasteland. Uninhabitable for thousands of years.
Talking head on CBS: Trump scheduling this meeting and then canceling it near 9/11 is very bad.
But.... . . . if this happened when Obama was president;
CBS talking head: Obama’s scheduling and canceling this meeting near 9/11 highlights the importance of maintaining good foreign relations to avoid misunderstandings like 9/11.
BBC said blowing people up during negotiations is what the Taliban do , D”OH
You got that right.
We need to be in a “total victory” state of war, WWII style, in Afghanistan, or get out. Every square inch the Taliban stand on has to be considered total enemy territory and bombed back to the stone age. Only then will the Taliban find no refuge among the people of Afghanistan.
When do we get out of that quagmire?
When we hole up, concentrate our troops in one or two spots, and bomb the place up and down, right and left, until they come to the table to talk and negotiate. They only understand power.
Only negotiate when they are dead or capitulate.
The Taliban are a bunch of towel head wearing seventh century morons they wanna live in that kind of society where women are covered head to energy at all and I have your little boys for their sex toys
you are not going to change these subgumans anytime soon best thing to do in that hell hole is keeping forward Base put giant walls Rite Aid and get the hell out
For every dead American, there must be at least 25 dead Taliban. Burka wearers are not exempt
I’ve said here Trump needs to do his own version of Nixon’s Lineback2. Turn the B-52s loose from one end of that Stone Age pest hole to the other for a whole week bombing every known Taliban hideout till they give it up and agree to cut the crap and start talking.
