“Interesting that the crew escaped, the passengers did not.”

Indicator number 4,286 that CA is now a third world s#%thole.

From the article:

“Hauser, the boat’s designer, said there were electrical outlets in the bunk room, where he fears the blaze started and spread rapidly.”

Your news may be dated. I’ve seen reports that 33 of the 34 were identified by DNA. Others here are noticing the discrepancy. Have you just replied to me?

here are quotes:

The captain apparently reports a fire and provides a location. The dispatcher is heard saying, “And there’s 33 people on board the vessel that’s on fire, they can’t get off? ... Roger, are they locked inside the boat? ... Roger, can you get back on board and unlock the boat, unlock the door so they can get off? ... Roger, you don’t have any firefighting gear at all? No fire extinguishers or anything?”

That's typical though of Coast Guard dispatch. I'm on these boats all the time diving Southern Calif. Between dives, its fun to sit up on the bridge and listen to the radio chatter. We just laugh at the Keystone Cop idiocy from the Coast Guard on radio chatter. If you could hear it, you'd say to yourself - "do these kids have any freaking idea what they're doing?"

33 found, one missing, my statement that they’ve all been identified was wrong.

Collateral damage for Rats needing to make a hit is ALWAYS acceptable to them, and seems to be defended here a bit too much, or perhaps some just really REALLY don’t want to believe almost all Democrats are at war against America and all for which we stand.

If this industry is going to survive they are going have to prove safety of the passengers comes first.

As I said, they have had a very good safety record until now but this tragedy changes everything.

They're never going to carry on without making safety modifications to these boats.

It's going to cost them upfront with modifications. Redesign will decrease the number of tourists per voyage but they can charge more.

After this, people are going to need to be reassured they will be safe.

After the Las Vegas MGM Grand fire in 80's, new codes were required for hotels.

The same thing is going to have happen here or few people are going to take these tours.

That’s a LOT of passengers crammed into very tight quarters with a tiny staircase and exit.

Not interesting at all, they've recovered at least 23 bodies so far. Why hasn't at least ONE person been identified? Because they were all just incinerated in a fiberglass box, beyond all recognition. The only way they can be identified is via DNA testing..

Very true and a very good point. People forget that the Conception went to the bottom at about 0700 and took all but four of the passengers with her. If we look at the video of the fire and the firefighting done by LA County Sheriff Fire Boats, we can see that the berthing compartment is quite hot and completely engulfed. The deceased remains were likely liquified and turned to ash in the 4 hours between the fire and the sinking. The "remains" are submerged at 0700 and due to tidal currents and critters and what not, it is surprising to me to even think there'd be enough left of anyone to id with DNA.

Any of the victims have any relationship, work history, contact with the Clintons? Just wondering.

I am betting on murder suicide arson.

Charging Lithium batteries burning like white hot phosphorous grenades.

There were no locks. The entrance to the bunk beds has no doors. The stairs lead straight up to the deck. No doors, no obstacles other than the fire itself.

It seems that it may have started in the galley and spread out on either side, because they had charging stations in the galley and probably somebody’s lithium battery exploded or overheated and set fire to something nearby.

Looking at an illustration of the boat someone posted above, I notice that all the life preservers are stored in the galley. If they are made out of certain types of plastic, they will burn ferociously hot. Life preservers for 40 or so people would be quite a lot of fuel to make a raging fire.

do we have any idea where exactly the fire started?

It started in the galley. Presumably where they had the charging stations for all the dive equipment, cell phones, cameras, etc.
