Lawyer taken away in handcuffs after showdown with Boston judge

A Boston judge ordered the defense attorney for a Straight Pride Parade protester to be taken away in handcuffs after she argued he didn’t have the right to refuse to dismiss a case.

Attorney Susan Church was held in contempt of court Wednesday by Boston Municipal Court Judge Richard Sinnott while defending Lilley Antoinette, 29, a protester from Somerville who was charged with disorderly conduct at the Straight Pride Parade in Boston Saturday.

Both Church and the prosecutor requested dismissing Antoinette’s case due to the police report of her arrest lacking information, including what her exact actions were at the event and who may have been victimized.

“We’re outraged,” said Elizabeth Rucker, who has been leading efforts to pay for the protesters’ bails. “An argument between the two is an overstatement of what happened. How could you possibly say (Antoinette) victimized someone if there’s no name of a victim?” Sinnott, who declined requests from prosecutors to dismiss some of the cases the day before, pushed back against Church when she spoke out about statutes regarding case dismissals.

“This is the only warning you’re going to get. Do not try to talk over me, do not try to turn this into theater,” Sinnott said before ordering Church to be held in contempt.

Antoinette’s arraignment was rescheduled due to Church’s removal, though she said her lawyer’s actions only made her like her more.

“My lawyer is a badass,” Antoinette said.

“the elements of the crime”

Massachusetts Disorderly Conduct Laws

According to the statute, a “disorderly person” is defined as one who:

with the purpose to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or
recklessly creates a risk thereof
engages in fighting or threatening, violent or tumultuous behavior, or
creates a hazard or physically offensive condition by any act which serves no legitimate purpose.

If you are convicted of disorderly conduct, it is punishable by up to 6 months in jail.

No Victim is required. Good judge. Good luck, lawyer lady, paying back all those student loans from jail and paying the fines.

Thanks for admitting it, Bipolar! We all do that from time to time.

In any case, there’s plenty of photos of Antifa attacks on people, and while the specific victim may not have wanted to be identified - opening him or herself up to doxxing by the left - that’s not what it’s all about. The state can file a complaint.

This judge is working very hard to keep Antifa from getting themselves killed by Americans.

Telling hizz or herrr honor what he or she can and cannot do in their court is always a bad plan.

I did too at first.

Generally, as a limited government guy, I support dismissal of cases where the government has made a faulty case. But I think the judge in this case sees the government has intentionally botched the case the police have brought forth.

It’ll be interesting to see what the DA does at this point.

Not exactly sure what transpired there, but it’s hilarious to note Leftist attorneys lie to judges day-in and day-out, no problem.

Cases are decided. The Leftist attorneys file another case over the same issue over and over and over. Judges just act as if nothing wrong is going on.

The FISA court was lied to, a number of times using fraudulent or extremely flawed documentation, no problem.

Oh but one of those damned problematic attorneys defending a straight pride protester. Now there’s a problem person right there.

Perhaps this person did cross the line. I’m sure she’s the first between the Lefties and those on our side.

Not so. A lawyer who talks over a judge in court violates a basic rule of decorum and is subject to being held in contempt and fined, jailed, or otherwise punished. In a courtroom, the judge is in charge.

I was in a 2 1/2 year legal battle with one of the largest financial institutions on earth. Their law firm hired a top gun firm. The bald faced derogatory lies that came out of their mouths, made me furious, wanted to punch them in the face. I won the case and it was a pretty good black eye on the firm, but it illustrated just how sleazy these people are

Leftists lie a lot.

Very hard to tell, not being in the court at the time.

The leftist Boston D.A. was fast tracking the violent Antifa protesters case. She was asking for dismissal for most of the cases. This judge said no. The leftist D.A. also appears to be in cahoots with the leftist attorney.

Just for clarity, there were no arrests of any straight pride people. It was only counter protesters that acted violently.

It’s an old tactic used by leftist defendants, especially when they know they’re guilty. William Kunstler tried to pull this crap during the Brinks trial, then yrs later during the LIRR shooting case (Black rage defense). Become your own lawyer and you’ll have a fool for a client. Hire an “activist atty” and you’ll have a DAMN fool for a client.

That’s the wad. There’s nothing left after saying that.

Typical Dem Activist lawyer; turn the courtroom into a circus. Apparently a rare judge wouldn’t have it.

Doesn’t surprise me a bit.

I sat on a jury where the defense attorney and defendant blatantly lied.

It’s frustrating to watch.
