Kroger joins Walmart in asking shoppers not to openly carry guns in stores

Kroger on Tuesday followed Walmart in asking shoppers not to openly carry guns in any of its stores, in states where “open carry” is allowed, unless they are authorized law enforcement officers.

The announced changes come amid a wave of deadly shootings in the U.S., including two at Walmart stores this summer.

Both companies are also calling on the government to strengthen background checks.

“Kroger is respectfully asking that customers no longer openly carry firearms into our stores, other than authorized law enforcement officers,” Jessica Adelman, group vice president of corporate affairs, said in an emailed statement. “We are also joining those encouraging our elected leaders to pass laws that will strengthen background checks and remove weapons from those who have been found to pose a risk for violence.”

.
Open carry is crude to be sure.

Concealed carry isw polite and civilized.

Without gun free zones, there would be no mass shootings.

My email to Kroger at https://www.kroger.com/customercomments

“If you check my Kroger Plus card, under ###-###-####. you will see I pretty much exclusively shopped at Kroger.

That is, until you decided to call for gun control. “We are also joining those encouraging our elected leaders to pass laws that will strengthen background checks”

I am a strong advocate of the Second Amendment, and for a company to voluntarily jump into the gun control debate is folly.

I can no longer shop at your stores. Aldis and Publix will do.”

I don’t care about the open-carry/concealed-carry policy.

I care about a company I give money to, working to pass more gun control.

I haven’t been back to Georgia in a long time. Do Piggly Wiggly and Winn Dixie still exist? Probably not.

Open carry is BLING, and CHILDISH. “Look at me I have a big gun.” You are far more dangerous for a bad guy if he thinks he is safe and you are cc.

These a-hole libtards would never dare to remove ALL guns from their own personal protection and their movies. They value THEIR lives and THEIR wealth.

Agree about the “attention whoring” comment...Simply says “shoot me first” in any bad guy scenario/situation...IMHO, will remain a bad idea in general until/if it becomes widespread and commonplace practice, but even then will stick with concealed...

Those of us who carry concealed, understand “concealed” means exactly that...Totally covert at all times...How would anyone not operating a metal detector know? Neither will the violent criminal actors...

And anyplace where my CCW is unwelcome, my consumer $ will also be...

"I decline"

We allowed to decline in a corporation owned store?
It's their property.

NOt by me.

I agree with you.

That said, I don’t want to give an inch to the left because that just encourages the bastards to then demand another inch!

The only way the GUN issue will ever be finally settled is by open warfare not open carry.

I don’t advocate open carry but a literal fight to the death, like on the issue of slavery and states rights in the 1860’s is the only way it will ever get FINALLY settled.

Arizona is an open carry state, and has been for years (in addition to concealed carry)

Yep. For a dominant player in the the retail grocery market, not impressed. Underwhelmed.

In my small town I have Kroger and Walmart and a genuine butcher shop. Busy place during hunting season.

I have concluded that my Kroger is purgatory for managers getting punished. If Publix opened a store here it would put a serious hurt on it.
