ODESSA, Texas (AP) The gunman in a spate of violence after a routine traffic stop in West Texas had just been fired from his job and called both police and the FBI before the shooting began, authorities said Monday.
Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said 36-year-old Seth Aaron Ator had been fired Saturday from Journey Oilfield Services. He said both Ator and the company called 911 after the firing but that Ator was gone by the time police showed up. FBI special agent Christopher Combs says Ators statements on the phone were rambling.
Authorities said Ator killed seven people and injured at least 22 others Saturday before officers killed him outside a busy movie theater in Odessa.
Combs said Ator was on a long spiral down before the shooting and that he went to work that day in trouble.
This did not happen because he was fired. He showed up to work enraged, said FBI special agent Christopher Combs of the suspected shooter.
Combs said the place where Ator lived was a strange residence and that the condition reflected what his mental state was going into this. He didnt elaborate.
Online court records show Ator was arrested in 2001 for a misdemeanor offense that would not have prevented him from legally purchasing firearms in Texas, although authorities have not said where Ator got the AR style weapon he used.

Just a guess but either not pulling his weight or failed a drug test. But just a guess. Lots of drug testing in the oil patch when peoples
lives are on the line (and liability.)
You mean the AP published a false headline? I’m shocked!
1. Was the creep doing any narcs at the time? Strung out? (Fentanyl, oxycocone, methamphetamine, cocaine, etc.)
2. Did he have any narcs in his car, on his person, in his residence?
3. Any history of SSRI's (anti-depressant, anti-anxiety drugs)?
4. Was he ever a psych patient?
5. And, how many gun laws did he break? (I wager it was several.)
.
Probably on all counts.
“”Lots of drug testing in the oil patch””
Random drug testing is common in the oil patch and to some extent in the trucking industry.
Just so many of these incidents, like Odessa, Midland, Parkland, El Paso, Dayton, etc., could have easily been prevented....not by gun law legislation...but, by Police, FBI, School Adminstration, etc., proactive action against mentally insane & criminal nutcases!!! Democrat Party scum, vermin and low life have not one clue, butt wipes that they all are!!!
Just remember that all these Low Life Democrats politically control the cities and ghettos like Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Baltimore, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco that have dozens of murders and thousands of woundings every week!!! WHY??? Go figure....it’s not gun control that stops these slaughters...it’s treating the mentally insane, jailing the criminals, thugs, human traffic dregs & drug dealers, etc. Trumpie has his finger on the real culprits....the dregs and low lifes of society...period!!!
Nine children? Hard to.beleive.
Maybe they will start taking mental defectives more seriously when they cry out.
re: “Ator did not call the FBI. No where in the story does it say he called the FBI.”
PLEASE explain this:
“The gunman in a spate of violence after a routine traffic stop in West Texas had just been fired from his job and called both police and the FBI before the shooting began, authorities said Monday.”
I’M NOT vouching for its accuracy, but, THAT is what is written in the story above.
I wanna see the baby dadys momma. Scratch that.
9 kids in Texas + divorce =s complete broke due to mandated child support. That would be a bit stressful and then add to it some meth and one is off to the races.
Article doesnt say where he worked.
The ‘second shooter’ was him when he stole the postal truck. People assumed references to a shooter in two different vehicles was two shooters rather than one.
LIBS closed mental “asylums” in the 60’s and 70’s because they felt that eventually THEY would be committed for being such lunatics. It was self-preservation.
“and the company called 911 after the firing but that Ator was gone by the time police showed up.”
OK, so...why? That is the next question to be answered re: the “motivation”. All that’s stated here is “he was enraged” coming to work. What did he actually do to make them call police?
refused to take a drug test. Showed up for work angry about something, boss says guess what? It is your lucky day for a drug test. Gets angrier.
Journey Trucking. Probably crude or salt water hauler.
He was nuts and Im surprised he even had a job.
He was a long haul truck driver and I think the FBI should be checking for unsolved killings (particularly of women) along his route. He seemed to hate his women neighbors particularly and would threaten them, but of course that may just be because it was easier to threaten a woman than a man.
Sorry, for the stupid Disney reference. My kids made me hear this in the car a thousand times.
Probably a local crude oil or salt water hauler. Just a guess. I guess I could google them.
