How many US colleges will soon begin to fail as the US rejects ever increasing tuition costs and student debt and worthless degrees?

The US glut of institutions of "higher" learning, along with students and parents, have become dependent upon Government loans...which increasingly do not get paid back. Time to clean house.

No, but we could get rid of every last sociology (insert here) studies program and be way ahead.

There are too many non-teaching administrative positions keeping each democrat college plantation over-employed. Professors used to outnumber admin before the 70’s, now I think there are closer to 3 times the number of teaching positions are non-teaching. Gotta keep those womens and black studies graduates employed somewhere between elections.

Will we see contraction of colleges, some going out of business? Or will the existing structure continue to be propped up?

Politicians of both parties tend to say, how we need the “best educated workforce to qualify for the jobs of the 21st century”, and other similar statements. And politicians of both parties have tended to be in favor of everyone going to college.

Many parents are convinced that their child needs a college degree as a base of educational achievement, in order to have some sort of professional career.

Many employers tend to require a college degree for various jobs, even if that degree is not something which directly applies to the job at hand.

Whoever came up with the federal student loan scheme should be indicted for committing a fraud against the taxpayers of the US.

The program alone has allowed colleges and universities to increase tuition and fees to the exorbitant amounts they now charge.

It requires no limit on how many and much could be borrowed and for what degrees could be pursued.

It has ruined many lives. It has resulted in a new worthless class of people in society.

It is a disaster.

Excellent! I would add: tax free centers.

They have become profit making/Tax Free indoctrination centers.

Where the minds of mush pay for their own indoctrination and become debt slaves!

And public high schools keep graduating incredibly stupid people who can't do basic math or compose a legible written sentence?

We keep whining about the proliferation of foreigners in professional fields in America, but what other choice is there? We're seriously handicapping the American student with liberal educational ideology.

My BIL teaches math and he said his current classes test at about 3% proficiency. He teaches algebra. Those kids can't even add simple numbers. He sent some remedial homework with them and the parents called the school and complained the work (simple addition and subtraction) was too advanced for even them to do.

Public education is becoming obsolete across the board and NASA will soon be filled with scientists who can't even speak Engrish.

There are too many college students. A decent HS education should prepare folks to be employable at a job that supports them, be life long learners and understand and live by the Rights and Responsibilities to be a good citizen.

I’d just eliminate federal student loan backing. If banks were risking funds by allowing “studies” loans, business sense would soon take over and these jokers would not be even near a real institution of learning.

Where will kids find a new playground knowing full well that the purpose of college education is how to screw America thinking you are worth more.

The Harvard School of Education issued a report in the last couple of years that said half the colleges in the U.S. would be bankrupt within 10 years.

We need religion back. Notice that every mass shooting at a school occurs within a public school or by a product of a state-run school. At least the vast majority. The mere atmosphere of public education is toxic and deadly. Not just spiritually and morally, but physically.

Today’s “college degree” (unless in hard science, medical, etc. fields) is likely the equivalent of a high school degree of 50 years ago.

The colleges exploit dumb 18-year olds for their student loans.

The law should be if you want to loan money to 18-year olds, great, but they don’t have to pay it back if they don’t want to.

My first supervisor out of engineering school had a line he said often.

“Keep the mystery of science alive. Support public education.”
