White House hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Saturday previewed his upcoming plan to cancel all past-due medical debt.

Sanders, who will unveil the plan in full next month, has made the country’s health care costs a focal point of his progressive policy proposals.

Sanders's plan would cancel $81 billion in existing past-due medical debt, repeal parts of the 2005 bankruptcy reform bill and ensure that unpaid medical bills do not impact one’s credit score. Sanders has hit the 2005 bill for eliminating "fundamental consumer protections," accusing it of making it difficult for Americans to pay back medical debt by imposing stringent means tests.

50 years ago, 90+% of the country would have seen this for what it is: socialism. Now, half or more view it as relief or a right. Less than my lifetime.

The Democrat theme is clear: Who can promise the most free stuff. Sadly, many American voters still believe in a the free lunch. When will they learn that the gov’t can only transfer money from one place to another. It’s a zero-sum game.

I have had several operations recently. I had kidney stones removed before I had Medicare. I paid cash (in advance) and got the entire procedure for about a third of what it would have cost me if I’d have bought the Obamacare policy. Even if I had the Obamacare policy I would have paid cash to keep the out of pocket down. I am in the process, under Medicare, of having cataracts removed. The out of pocket is about four grand. (Also due in advance.)

So, who, exactly, is getting all of this medical care on credit? Also, if government comes along and cancels the debt, what happens to the next people who need medical care on credit?

In Florida, as long as you are paying something on the bill, the holders of the bill can’t come after you for the total. Therefore, you get the opportunity to buy out the bill at a discount, like insurance companies do.

Why just medical debts? Why not all debts, including any I might take on tomorrow?

So I will not vote for Sanders because he hasn’t offered anything for me. No student debt. No medical debt. Now if he offered to cancel my mortgage debt or my property tax. Then I would vote for him. ?sarc?

People will move their debt to medical. Pay off other debts with money they otherwise would have paid on health costs.

And with what power does he have this ability?

And how fast would people like to see the medical industry collapse when all of a sudden no one pays their bills anymore because comrade Bernie has legalized theft of services?

50 years ago, 90+% of the country would have seen this for what it is: socialism. Now, half or more view it as relief or a right. Less than my lifetime.

I believe that it was in the 1950s that the USSR began placing moles in various influential institutions in order to undermine American culture. The influence was tiny at first, but grew over time. We now see the effects of the Soviet influence everywhere.

The process has proceeded on a sigmoidal log-function trajectory, much like the growth of cancer. It starts small, and we might not notice it until it has grown for a while. There is a window when we have noticed the cancer and have time to treat it. Then it metastasizes, where it still keeps growing but has already caused lethal damage; the next stage is death.

I like to think that we can still turn this around. Trump was our agent for doing this, but we need more like him to be successful. Otherwise, metastatic socialism will destroy us.

50 years ago, the iron triangle of "nonprofit" hospitals, "payers", and Big Pharma has not seized control of the medical system.

Does this mean the feds are paying off the debts of individuals? Or is he waving a magic wand and saying that debt between two entities is no longer valid? If it is the latter, is that legal? I can’t imagine it is. Why would anyone get in the business of lending money if the debt can be cancelled for political reasons.

So, who, exactly, is getting all of this medical care on credit?

Not us. As I said yesterday, it's $10k out of pocket for one family member with Parkinsons. The alternative is, of course, free crap care from the government. We've looked at those medicaid nursing homes and they are simply warehouses for old people.

Should say $10k/month but you can probably guess that.

Why not just cancel ALL debt. With that stroke of genius, we can destroy the government through bankruptcy and private enterprise all at the same time. Sanders would have his wishes of destroying America as we know it and then try to pick up what pieces are left.
