The attorney for a man who police say shot and killed a Leander ISD teacher and coach says his client has been been no-billed by a grand jury, meaning he won't be indicted.
Larry Smith is accused of shooting and killing his next door neighbor Adam Ladner during an altercation in January.
It all started when Smith called police for a noise complaint against Ladner. After police left Ladner's home, Smith says Ladner became violent with him.
According to court documents, at some point during this physical confrontation, Smith shot Ladner. When officers arrived, Ladner was dead on Smith's property.

Smith's booking picture after the incident.

The coach's family will now be without a father because he couldn't stay in his own yard.
There is no shortage of people who think they can open up a can of whoopass on anyone they please.
Athletes tend to get a pass all through their school years.
Adult life, not so much.
Looking at the actual victim, good shoot.
In this day of quality earbuds, there is no excuse for loud music. (If that’s what the complaint was for)
41 year old ex-Marine beating the hell out of a skinny 64 year old.
Some people need killing.
Best not to o0en the door to idiot pounding on it late at night.
Agreed.
Or, it could have been kids playing, or the dog barking.
The other side always gets a vote.
Maybe.
But if he called the cops on kids then no wonder the neighbor was steamed.
Most of us can be steamed without anybody getting a black eye.
It was 11.30 pm, so kids should have been in bed.
Bull.
This was late at night, and the victim is a 64 year old hospital nurse. The entitled one should have called it a night instead of stomping over to beat up the neighbor.
I read another article that stated that the shooter refused to make any statements to the investigators.
That’s why he was no-billed, he failed to make any stupid comments that could be used against him.
Results would indicate that he was the smarter man of the two.
Shame. The victim will have to live with this justified shooting. Its justified but not something any good person wants hung around their neck. The ‘perp’ neighbors family will have to live with the loss of a father. No winners there.
Society is the winner here
I hope you mean in the sense the victim wasn’t charged. I will agree with that.
Still a shame for all those involved. Avoidable by the perp neighbor.
I obviously don’t know very much about the story, but I would guess that it may not have been avoidable by the neighbor.
Some people just have no self-control.
The coach had moved in the month before. The nurse had lived there for years and none of the neighbors had any problems with him. Maps show it to be a very nice neighborhood.
The police reported the initial noise complaint was the coach “speaking loudly with his family members”. If he “beat the hell” out of his neighbor, bet it was a bit more than speaking loudly to his wife and kids.
Eight minutes after the police left the first time, the nurse’s wife called to report her husband had shot the coach so that was an immediate response by the coach.
Wonder if they did a toxicology test on the coach. It may have been a good thing the nurse called the cops before one of the kids got the heck beat out of them.
Never pick a fight with an old man. If he’s too old to fight you give him little option but to kill you.
Texas grand juries usually do a good job.
I trust their judgement here.
