Cease and Desist Order Issued.
DENVER The company that designed and installed red light cameras at four Denver intersections beginning in 2008 was not properly licensed according to state authorities and has been ordered to cease and desist such operations in Colorado. Colorados state board of licensure for architects, professional engineers, and professional land surveyors issued the order Aug. 16, ordering Redflex Traffic Systems to cease and desist the unlicensed practice of engineering.
...
Redflex was never licensed to practice engineering in Colorado, yet engaged in the unlicensed practice of engineering when (Redflex) provided professional services to the City and County of Denver by designing and installing red light cameras at four intersections.
What Redflex did, according to the state, constitutes the unlicensed practice of engineering.
...
The cameras have generated millions of dollars in ticket revenue since 2008. Anyone caught by the cameras is subject to a $75 ticket.
...
Denver attorney Danny Foster said.. those tickets are still likely valid as there is no city code that specifies whoever installed the cameras had to be an engineer to insure the tickets are valid...
I dont think the fact there is a cease and desist order was issued is going to change the validity of these tickets.

Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Bonus Question: Are red light cameras purchased by the city because they are concerned for your safety or are they another part of their revenue enhancement program?

Actually all persons involved should be Thrown in Prison for this Extortion Scheme and running a Criminal Enterprise. All tickets dismissed, and FIRE the Entire Police Force for being Stupid enough to go along with the Criminal Enterprise.
We must make sure money is channeled to connected political cronies!
In Tennessee you cannot be forced to pay for a red light ticket. They can send you official looking letters (always by first class mail so they can never prove you received a notice) with threatening sounding language, but there isn’t a thing they can do if you don’t pay but send you another letter.
You know the answer. Money. No matter what they tell you, it’s money.
Revenue. I noticed the last few times I visited the Chicago megalopolis, that most of the lights have a fairly long yellow. You sort of get used to how long they last. But I think they are trying to intentionally lull you into a certain expectation that is wrong.
I say that because, what I noticed was that some lights are very short compared to all the others. Sure, they are the “three second minimum” (yes, I timed one). But the key is this: Every single short light was a red light camera enforced light.
So yes, they are OBVIOUSLY revenue sources.
In my state of Kentucky we have no cameras. But what happens is there is a two or three second “all lights red” period when they switch. Much safer than just slapping up cameras for fun and profit.

Hey, Danny Boy -- You've got a much bigger problem than the validity of the ticket revenue on your hands.
If you had traffic signals installed by a company that wasn't licensed to practice in the state of Colorado, I'd say you should now have an entire office filled with staff members combing through the city's motor vehicle crash records to see how many of these crashes occurred at the intersections where those signals were installed ... because you're soon going to have about 10,000 personal injury attorney's filing about a billion dollars worth of lawsuits in the next 48 hours against the City of Denver, Redflex, and probably you as well.

Well, Heck.
I’ve been practicing engineering, unlicensed, all my life.

If Redflex needs a new CEO I can think of no better candidate - would match the corporate culture!
I told my local council member (a Democrat) to vote against the bill authorizing red light cameras because “these things are the veritable touchstone of public corruption”.
To my surprise and delight she voted against them.
The other jackals, hungry for the revenue, voted yea.
Comb-ie needs a new hairstylist, that color looks awful.
Not exactly true. They report unpaid tickets as unpaid bills to the credit bureaus. Not a big deal if you don't mind your credit score going down.
Not in Tennessee. They wrote the law so that they can’t legally report it.
Ultimately these things always crash and burn against the Sixth Amendment right to confront your accuser. There is no way to put a camera on the stand so you can cross-examine it.
They rely on ignorance, or people just paying the fine rather than going through the hassle.
Bttt
After having worked with RedFlex (they are a$$wipes) I am surprised they accepted that stipulation. Reporting it as bad debt is the only recourse they have.

They never said the ticket to “anyone”. They send the ticket to the owner of the license plate. They don’t know for sure who was driving. Completely unconstitutional.
