Trump’s Personal Assistant, Madeleine Westerhout, Steps Down
The New York Times ^ | 08/29/2019 | Annie Karni and Maggie Haberman

President Trump’s personal assistant, Madeleine Westerhout, whose office sits in front of the Oval Office and who has served as the president’s gatekeeper since Day 1 of his administration, resigned on Thursday, two people familiar with her exit said.

Ms. Westerhout’s abrupt and unexpected departure came after Mr. Trump learned on Thursday that she had indiscreetly shared details about his family and the Oval Office operations she was part of at a recent off-the-record dinner with reporters staying at hotels near Bedminster, N.J., during the president’s working vacation, according to one of the people, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss White House personnel issues...

Ms. Westerhout, a former Republican National Committee aide who also worked for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, reportedly cried on election night because she was upset over Mr. Trump’s victory. As such, the president at first viewed her warily, as a late convert to his cause who could not be trusted.

It is widely used, including within the administration and a useful term. Just keep avoidung the obvious however.

resigned on Thursday

Not to be technical, but they really mean "allowed" to resign. They threw her a bone by not firing her.

Why would he hire such a person?

President Trump comes from the world of business with a certain level of trust. He warned us about the level of DC treachery in his campaign, but somehow thought people could be trusted to not be so vile if they were called upon to do a job.

I wouldn't be upset if he got rid of everyone who had any kind of positive connection to Paul Ryan or Mitt Romney. They've been saboteurs from before Day 1 of this presidency.

I didn’t say anyone, but Trump supporters wanted Sessions. If Trump would have chosen someone from the Establishment, they would have criticized him.

That’s entirely different—and of course what he has right now.

Disagree. As such, there should be a jury trial. She’s got a maw like the hood of a Buick and her body is meh.

I’d vote guilty. Remember Ollie North’s assistant? Yeah you do.

We didn’t know he wasn’t a loyalist.

His 100% support of Mueller was not a hint for you?

That was after Trump chose him. Trump needed to choose someone who supported him after he picked Reince and people from Goldman Sachs.

I didn’t say anyone, but Trump supporters wanted Sessions.

I became very suspicious of Session when he appeared on stage at a Trump rally and cautiously adorned a MAGA hat only to sheepishly remove it as if he was embarrassed, when leaving the stage. I supported him mainly because of his staunch immigration stance which he abandoned as soon as he took the AG position.

Us old farts are a little more jaded because we have watched this kind of crooked behavior go unpunished since FDR.

Maybe in your circles. Around here, it’s almost always you.

“Javanka” wasn’t even funny or clever when it was a thing. Three years later, it’s just obnoxious, like the Democrats calling the President Drumpf.

Is the difference between “resigned” and “fired” the option to receive unemployment checks?

As of last year, her salary was $130,000 per year. That is indeed, much more, than what most of the men at the White House were making.
