Hurricane Dorian battered St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and brushing Puerto Rico. Taking aim at the Florida Atlantic Coastline, Hurricane Dorian is projected to be a major hurricane (Category 3) at landfall.

[I gassed up yesterday at wawa in tradition.]
I tried last night around 9 PM. 4 of the 5 Gas stations had no gas and the one that did, the line was too long.
Yep! That's what I'm doing. I'm up in the Ocala area and I have saved gallon water jugs from Publix I store in the bottom of the pantry after using the water in them and fill up when a hurricane makes its appearance.
We also save milk jugs and store them in the garage filled with water for the toilets (well and septic) and a 30 gallon trash bin we fill with water to refill the jugs if necessary. Bread, peanut butter, crackers, protein bars, candles, lighters, batteries, and flashlights (it's REALLY dark out here in the woods at night)...
Otown media is the worst
and left now .
Cant sell ad time and keep viewers if the storm
moved .
Oh my. I figured you’d be doing this shortly. My prayers go with you and family. Hugs, NN.
“So why not just save some water from the faucet BEFORE the storm comes?”
Another good question.
Because tap water doesn’t keep as well as bottled water except when refrigerated. If the power goes out it can get foulded with bacteria within a few days.
This can happen with refilled 5 gal.s too. Before I fill my 5 gal. jugs I put a little bleach and water in, put on the cap and shake. Then it’s ready for refill. This can be done with home containers and the faucet but it’s a bit much and you don’t know how contaminated the container and water is to begin with.
Bttt
It's never a bad idea. Justa is correct about the contaminated ground water in FL after storms.
Most of us are pretty acclimatized to the convenience of plastic bottled water. It keeps a long time, it has no bad taste, and it's in the right size for drinking.
In case of emergencies, I have several of these 5 gallon collapsible jugs. You can buy them on Amazon for $9.99 each.
Reliance Fold-A-Carrier, 5 Gallons
I also carry these in my home:
Potable Aqua Water Purification Treatment (50 Tablets)
I keep a packet of pool shock handy - mix with water to make a bleach for water purification.
Dont these people have faucets in their house?

Funny. I kind of asked him the same thing. He said “Oh, we just drink bottled water.” I told him, worse comes to worst, they could always boil the city water and drink THAT. It’s very weird. Sometimes I think people are looking for things to freak out about.
This is a neat idea for emergencies - it allows you to fill your tub with tap water (55 gallons): https://waterbob.com
And with overnight door service from Walmart and Amazon you can order your flashlight and batteries and bottled water and generator and have it on your doorstep Saturday Morning.
GasBuddy has a somewhat useable feature, but it is dependent on the veracity of the users...

Do you have a link I could save? That’s wonderful...
Those 5-gal. things are very nice. (After losing water several times over the past few years, I’ve decided that I’d much rather lose electricity than water.)

Thanks for the link, nice function.
And those foldable carriers take up little space when not in use. I keep a couple around and I don’t live in a hurricane zone.

“they could always boil the city water and drink THAT. “
It’s 90 degrees out with 90% humidity. How you going to boil city water when the power’s out? And would you want to drink contaminated water that’s been boiled and is hot? And who wants to heat up the house with the A/C off? W/o a gas stove, what, boil it outside with a pot on the grill? With the all mosquitoes? Then haul a hot pot of water into the already hot house?
When the power goes out and the generator isn’t enough to run the A/C it’s all about keeping the humdity down inside the house. There’s a huge difference between 80 degrees at 40% humidity and 80 degrees at 90% humidity. Who can sleep when they’re soaking in sweat?
Nah, acquiring clean drinking water beforehand and securing it inside w/ the A/C before power failure is what most Floridians do.
We also take old jugs, fill them with water and stuff them into the freezer to keep food frozen longer after power failure when a generator isn’t avaialable.
I like to stock up at Taco Bell or similar and put it in the fridge so I don’t have to cook and heat up the house when on the generator.
