In reality, he lost the show because he is a candidate for president - no media outlet will allow a candidate for public office continue to host a show during the campaign. otherwise you can run into all kinds of election finance law problems. For example, does allowing him to host constitute an “in-kind” contribution to his campaign?

He thought he would have a free campaign broadcast via his show? Did he think it was somehow owed to him?
Also, if “80 to 90%” of his audience supports President Trump - I’d assume this means advertisers on the show would see a massive decline in listeners as an anti-Trump message was barfed out daily.
