Trooper Nicholas Hopkins was shot and killed while serving a search warrant at a home at 1426 North 42nd Street and Caseyville Avenue in East St. Louis, Illinois.
He and other members of the Emergency Response Team were making entry into the home at 5:30 am when he was shot by an occupant during an exchange of gunfire.
Trooper Hopkins had served with the Illinois State Police for 10 years. He is survived by his wife and children.
Trooper Nicholas J. Hopkins
Now, this is a story with way too little information to determine whether the shooting was justified.
East St.Louis. Well, we all know what that means.
But - dynamic entry at 5 AM to serve a search warrant? Beginning to sound like the Houston case.
RIP Trooper Nickolas J Hopkins
Why is it I get this sick feeling we’ll come to find in the next few day this officers tragic death could have easily been avoided?
How they are going to miss him, for the rest of their lives...
Line of Duty Death ping.
FReepmail me to be added to the Line of Duty Death ping list.
The shooting of the Trooper was justified?
Are you sure you meant it that way?
Prayers up.
RIP.

East St. Louis is the anus of Illinois. Its every bit as bad as the worst hoods in Chicago. More information will be forthcoming Im sure.
So I know this is quite unusual for FR but maybe we should wait for a few more facts to emerge. Right now might be a good time to offer up some prayers for the dead Trooper and his family.

Wonder why a State Trooper was serving this search warrant rather than the local police?
RIP Trooper Hopkins. May God comfort your family.
Probably part of a ‘multi-agency task force’.
The shooting of the trooper is tragic. I question the reason troopers are serving a search warrant at 5 AM. Was it a “no knock” entry? That’s a storm trooper tactic.
Wow. Im guessing we have not heard the end of the story. And if we have it because authorities want it covered up.
That explains a lot. Some bad asses at that address. Never saw a vehicle mounted ram before - looks like it is effective!
In a few years, after the ‘Rats take control of the government, ban guns, and issue confiscation orders ...
State Troopers and other uniformed agents of the government will go about executing those orders.
And We the People will defend ourselves against tyranny.
And the headline will read “Trooper Slain During Search Warrant”.
We’re not there, yet.
But I don’t trust the Government Media complex.
In the meanwhile ... may God have mercy on his soul, bring comfort to survivors, and bring justice to those who did wrong.
In a day when police lie to obtain warrants, and routinely employ high risk procedures unnecessarily, the question must be asked. The police are armed agents of the state; they’re not my friends any more than the state is.
Hostage situation, Mexican cartel members....
