(CNN)Fires are raging at a record rate in Brazil's Amazon rainforest, and scientists warn that it could strike a devastating blow to the fight against climate change.
The fires are burning at the highest rate since the country's space research center, the National Institute for Space Research (known by the abbreviation INPE), began tracking them in 2013, the center said Tuesday. There have been 72,843 fires in Brazil this year, with more than half in the Amazon region, INPE said. That's more than an 80% increase compared with the same period last year. The Amazon is often referred to as the planet's lungs, producing 20% of the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere.

It will come back 10 times healthier at some point.
China wants them to grow them MORE FOOD
They’ve been ‘burning’ for ages.....goes with the natural cycles of the rainforest....new cycles = new growth.
This and all the Global Warming crap is just the lead up to the UN’s Global warming Lovefest next month
All the recent doom and gloom “climate change” news Forest fires, hottest ever, wildlife dying, less insects, less birds blah, blah h ecohysteria
So now fires burn faster than before? More oxygen? I thought the problem was too much C02?

Earlier today, I read that the fires were set deliberately, by people looking to clear out part of the rainforest so they can settle on the land. Global warming/climate change has nothing to do with it.
Yes, but what about all the orchids and bromeliads?
Forest management. Clear the fuel, and they will not have more fires for a long time. Alternative to burning? Let the deadwood rot, and it will still release exactly the same amount of that terrible pollutant - CO2 - that we all exhale.
We did a decent job deforesting N America. Now its time to pull up the ladder. Same principal with DDT, coal, mining, etc.
They are literally gone forever.
Like A Disco Inferno?
Maybe its time to send in the lumber companies to thin out the forests. I could really use some old growth Brazilian Rosewood. Better to build fine musical instruments with it than to let it burn.
Of course they are blaming the usual suspects, deforestation and climate change. But you bring up an interesting dilemma for the climate alarmists they hide. Trees can die off and become a fire hazard from LACK of CO2 also.
I have ten acres on the rim of the grand canyon covered with forest. My trees are looking kind of poor and I was sure it was drought. Asked an old friend who is an Arborist and “Tree Doctor” to come up and look at them.
Not drought at all, they are getting more than enough moisture, it is actually lack of CO2 the last several decades causing them to become poorly and become a fire hazard.
What a joke. Are they going to drain the swamps to prevent methane release too?
The Amazone forest is the biggest producer of CO2 by carbon decomposition. The fires are actually healthier in a way
Does this mean we need to release more CO2 to replenish the rainforest? I think we need to spend trillions of dollars on coal plants and SUV’s to keep the earth green. This is my “Green Energy Policy”.

The guy on BBC said they have to burn the land every year so they can use it ,LOL
