Bravo!

No, eliminating debt is an unbalanced and unfair way to help any particular group, since it rewards those who went into debt above those who handled their business differently.

Also a bad precedent to establish on the whole student finance issue — however much liberal Ivanka probably approves.

If he is helping some disabled vets, he should help all—not just those who have taken on student debt. I would have thought there were school funding benefits for them already, but they should for example only go to the most cost-effective options, so that the most can be helped with whatever funding provided to the program.

1.1 Million Vets have a 70% or better disability rating.

All 1.1 Million of them DO NOT have college debt; I’m sure it’s a rather small percentage, as our education is paid through the military while we’re in, and the GI Bill and other tuition reimbursement programs when we’re out.

This is going to be a small drop in the bucket, but great PR for President Trump.

How is this any different than helping Vets get healthcare closer to home? Again, a small percentage of us, with great PR and a lot of appreciation for those of us effected.

At least he’s doing SOMETHING for us. What have past presidents done? Not much! Handed out measly pay raises and patted themselves on the backs! Meh!

(In all fairness 0bama DID throw a lot of cash at the VA hospitals - but, as usual, no one can account for the money!)

You are very correct. The federal government funding is what caused this crisis. That is what needs to be eliminated. Not this usually leftist approach of piling on more taxpayer money to fix a problem that misdirected taxpayer money caused to start with.

As much as I respect and support our military, I’d like to see the blatant misuse of classifying veterans as disabled repaired before we start handing out additional benefits. There are people within the VA that heavily push vets to apply to be classified as disabled, so they can get $$$. For as many vets as there are who truly need this support, there are a large number who are milking the system.

100% agree. I am DISGUSTED at my childhood friends and peers who have gone down this road, with full support of the VA; they tried to pressure me into it, "it's free money". Most of them make very good money and were officers to boot. I made it clear that I found it utterly disgusting and dishonorable. I wish they would do an audit and re-examine all claims.

I couldn't agree more.

I would say 70% and above.

Actually the smart thing would be for Trump to start diffusing the ticking student debt time bomb.

I talk to a lot of Millenials, and mark my word, if nothing is done this one WILL jump up to bite us hard at the ballot box.

It sucks, but that’s just the reality.

It doesn’t cover all educational expenses.

I wonder if I can go back to college now and incur no debt?

Reading your post gave me a “lightbulb moment”. Liberals are always trying to control costs of everything. Why have then not gone after colleges and universities and put a cap on the tuition? I find that incredible that liberals have not gone there.

Only if you're an illegal living in a sanctuary city. Then, everything is free. This is why I totally, 100% support President Trump in this effort, he's putting real Americans first.

“I’d like to see the blatant misuse of classifying veterans as disabled repaired before we start handing out additional benefits”

Are you a disabled vet?

I know the process I went through to gain VA compensation was quite rigorous. I would not have been able to fake it.

The VA denies 3 claims for every one they approve.

” “Every penny of student loan debt for those who are completely and permanently disabled.”

Gee, there’s not even a handful of 100% rating that have college loan debt.

100% rating is exceedingly rare.

One guy on Tunnel2Towers ad is missing two legs, an arm, and a hand. I have no problem helping those disabled vets a little more than some others. But PTSD ... I dunno. WWII soldiers were in more hellish situations, but they came home, bucked up, and lived their lives. Just MHO.

“Is anyone aware of how much fraud there is with the VA Disability ratings and Vets? They have become a welfare class of folks. I’m a vet. So, no telling me that I don’t know what it’s like.”

Are you a disabled vet? What is your basis of knowledge?

In your exaggerated stories, how much is factual?

I spend a lot of time at the local VA medical center. I have yet to encounter anyone I though was faking it.

“1.1 Million Vets have a 70% or better disability rating.”

Citation?

I’m surprised the number is that high. The WWII vets are almost all gone. Korea fading fast and Vietnam vets are in their 60s and 70s now.

I’m not suggesting artificially controlling costs, but there isn’t any reason why, in the age of YouTube, chat forums and computerized testing why it should cost $50,000 per year to attend an educational institution either.

I'm not a disabled vet. But I know several. They had the same experience this discusses. And this. And this. For the record, I'm a military brat. Dad did 33 years. First spouse did almost 30 years, 20 while we were married. Second spouse is Vietnam vet. I'm not bashing the military, but this IS a problem.
