South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg held a self-described grassroots campaign rally in Bronzeville on Tuesday night, but the overwhelmingly white audience he drew to the event in a historic black neighborhood reinforced the difficulty the Democratic presidential hopeful has had in connecting with African American voters.
Buttigieg did not acknowledge the makeup of the audience in his remarks or in answering questions from the 1,000 people at the sold-out event, but did touch on it briefly as he closed the hourlong rally with a plea for his supporters.

Who knows - he may make a cameo appearance on the next “Truvada” commercial.
Scary because of the blacks? Not entirely; what’s scary is when you get “The Look”- you know, the “if looks could kill” glare from the haters.
That probably translates to how a black might feel going through certain “white” areas, too.
We've had one already (though poorly closeted). Time to "move on".
Sanctimonious Mean Little Pete never shuts the h*ll up about his gayness, his gay “marriage”, and his claim that he’s a better “Christian” than traditional Bible-believing Christians.
Blacks see through his pandering , hypocrisy, and elitist whitey arrogance, good for them.

Good grief, you must have mistook the FreeRepublic forum for the DU.
No, NOT because of the “blacks”....Because of the shady looking characters (of any color), bombed out buildings, glaring looks, bars every ten feet, drunks laying on the sidewalk, blaring music, etc etc.
The obvious misguided perception that the scariness I referred to had anything to do with race illustrates quite effectively the typical liberal/progressive kneejerk reactions so frequently expressed by the hard left.
A few cultural elements of African American early 20th century spiritual life (it was close to what ‘charismatic’ protestant churches look like today) have remained. They are in the background, but they are still there. The overall view of LGBT in the African American community is closer to the rural white christian oilworker in Oklahoma than it is to the current ‘rat thinking on ‘alternative lifestyles’. They may vote ‘rat, but some of what granny and grandpa taught (before too many African American homes went single parent) still flows through many of those those households.
