A man was in police custody Tuesday in connection with the death of a 9-year-old girl in Detroit who was mauled by three dogs despite efforts by neighbors and her own "heartbroken" father, who lamented that "she was gone when I reached her."

Dogs that may be well controlled and even-tempered by themselves can become very stupid and dangerous in a hurry when part of a pack that’s triggered. Our little lap dogs go into a frenzy of nighttime blood lust when they think there’s a possum in their yard. It’s cute when they’re maltipoos, but when they’re pit bulls, the owner is taking a serious chance. I wouldn’t blame any municipality that made it illegal for more than multiple pit bulls to live at the same address.
How did such a dope raise a smart daughter?
I would bet over the years she saw them go off for no reason.
We also have a Golden, 90 pounds of giant teddy bear.
A pit bull is to dogs what Godzilla is to lizards. I feel sorry for this doomed child NOT the parent who chose the born and bred killer he brought home.
What's an "assault weapon"?
Firearms are inanimate objects they don't go off on killing sprees all on their own.
Can't say the same of certain animals.
” Dont know why people keep them as pets.”
Really? Not familiar with the beautiful culture and traditions of inner city minority youth, eh?
He should not have let the little girl ride her bike in the area,You blame him you lunatic asshole?
Oh, I misread the article. It wasn’t the owners child!! In that case, were I the child’s parent, dogs AND owner would be dead.
Agreed. Crazy isnt it.
“Did. Not. Even. Need. To. Read.”
Be careful! Posts with periods.between.words will be declared hate speech any day now.
The dog wasn't owned by the girl's father, it belonged to a neighbor.
All of the no-kill shelters in our town get burdened with these dogs, so they are taking up a space where a “normal” dog might have a chance of getting adopted. Seems like a disservice to the community.
I misread. Sorry. If I had lost my child so horrifically I would be, justifiably, homicidal.
Adolf Hitler and vegetarianism

“Alexander Cockburn also wrote of Hitler:
Nazi leaders were noted for love of their pets and for certain animals, notably apex predators like the wolf and the lion...Goebbels said, famously, ‘The only real friend one has in the end is the dog. . . The more I get to know the human species, the more I care for my Benno.’...On the one hand, monsters of cruelty towards their fellow humans; on the other, kind to animals and zealous in their interest...Hitler was given films by a maharaja which displayed animals killing people. The Führer watched with equanimity. Another film showed humans killing animals. Hitler covered his eyes and begged to be told when the slaughter was over.[29]”
Uh, perhaps because the owners are felons and/or can't own/risk owning/possessing a firearm without running afoul of the legal system?
Lots of drug dealers, especially convicted ones, choose the Pit Bull route instead of the roscoe.
Many owners of pit bulls are prohibited from having firearms because of their drug activities, and many of them are in favor of gun control despite some of them having weapons of their own.
And apparently for Freepers for saying such a stupid thing.
Serious question... if you encountered a pit bull and you did not have a weapon (gun, stick, golf club, etc.), what is the best way to incapacitate or kill the pit bull. Is it possible to grab its back legs and start pounding the dog into the pavement? Maybe apply a rear naked choke hold? Seriously, I have thought about this in case I ever had to deal with this. Thanks!
Certain breeds of dogs should require insurance or a large deposit held in escrow in case said animal harms a human.
Might be true. In addition, most pit bull and other aggressive breeds are mostly owned by anti-social and certain those of paranoid personalities. In raising and training these breeds, the same traits are trained into their animals.
