He also said he was devastated by the shootings and agreed with the decision to not release the film after he said it had been misinterpreted.
“I was devastated by going to sleep to El Paso and waking up to Dayton,” Craig Zobel said. “These types of moments happen far too often. In the wake of these horrific events, we immediately considered what it meant for the timing of our film. Once inaccurate assumptions about the content and intent of the movie began to take hold, I supported the decision to move the film off its release date.”
The director insisted the film had been misunderstood and that it was supposed to show what happens when both sides of the political spectrum fail to listen or try to understand one another.
He said he did not think it took sides against conservatives.
"Our ambition was to poke at both sides of the aisle equally,” Zobel told Variety.
“I wanted to make a fun, action thriller that satirized this moment in our culture — where we jump to assume we know someone’s beliefs because of which ‘team’ we think they’re on ... and then start shouting at them," he told Variety. “This rush to judgment is one of the most relevant problems of our time.”

Right. So you make a movie about leftist elites hunting conservatives/Republicans and we’re supposed to understand your intent was satirical against both sides. This despite the fact that the entertainment industry has been infested with communists for decades. Also, how satirical could it be to the side being hunted?

Warning Labels For Liberals
The very rich who are engaged in “hunting” the “deplorables”, were in fact the plutocrats, who through endowments and foundations, maintain the think tanks that direct and fund the Democrat Party.
Truly an “Astroturf” roots movement, coming not from the great masses of the proletarians, but from the same oligarchy that has the firm hold on the reins of the Deep State.
It ain’t paranoia if they really are picking on you.
From the trailers I watched the Deplorables out think and out maneuver the elites and exact revenge on the (obviously deranged) perpetrators.
This movie is a win for Conservative Republicans.
First it shows what we have always known; liberal elites are targeting conservatives and Trump voters.
Second, in the end, conservatives fight back and win.

From what I understand, the bad-ass deplorable (a woman) turns the tables on the elite scum and starts hunting them down one-by-one, similar to the “Most Dangerous Game” short story that the film was loosely based on.
Hollyweird and the elites that populate it are truly removed and insulated from mainstream America. They have no clue what the world looks like outside of their privileged tier of society. Their lives are contained within a vacuum of cognitive dissonance.
This person really thinks his script/screenplay is “poking fun”? These folks are sick in the head. /r

I am simply amazed how so called Conservatives support Censorship.
The Film should have been released with the appropriate Age related Rating.
The outrage over what is essentially formula Revenge Movie is beyond ridiculous.
Is it in bad taste, sure, but so are the Saw Movies and the Hostel Movies. Is the timing of the release of the Film unfortunate, could be depending on your grasp of the reality that People are Murdered every day, day in and day out in this Country.
The knee jerk reaction when the first Trailer appeared was interesting, for lack of a better term. In the end, the “Hunted” Conservatives end up hunting the Liberal “Hunters”.
I wonder, what if the roles were reversed?
It’s just a Movie. It either makes money or it doesn’t.
