Ben Howe is angry at evangelicals. As he describes it, he is angry that they didnt just vote for Donald Trump in record numbers, but repeatedly provide moral cover for his outrageous failings. He is angry that leaders of the religious right, who long claimed to be the champions of American morality, appear to have gladly traded their values for power. He is angry that Christians claim they support the president because they want to end abortion or protect religious liberty, when supporting Trump suggests that what they really want is a champion who will mock and crush their perceived enemies.
To redeem themselves, Howe believes, evangelicals have to give up their take-no-prisoners culture war.

She’s from Georgetown. Leftism started there on the east coast. The Ivy schools and the other small colleges back east went leftist long before California did.
In any case, at this point, the east coast university educated chicks wind up swarming around DC and New York generating a steady stream of this kind of thought.
Like this one for example, she was 9 or 10 when 9/11 happened. It’s idiotic to listen to people like her.
Sometimes it seems the media is watching an entirely different channel than the rest of the country...
Actually Emma Green isn’t that bad. She asks a couple of good questions. The guy who is selling the book seems pretty awful though (and she does actually make that point).
Which is TOTALLY the opposite of what the Left revels in... ahem...
How can the Old Testament be "Christianity" when it predates Christ by thousands of years? I'm pretty sure that Jesus's message is in the other half of the Bible.
The lefty thing started with the hippies on the Weat Coast, didn’t it? I mean before th the t there were the Hollywood communists, but that was really controversial with McCarthy, so it’s hard to tease that out, but it was still Left Coast. The East Coast remained far more conservative until the impeachment of President Nixon.
NOT.
Um, Jesus is THE GOD of the Bible, both Testaments.
Also, it's a crowded opinion field out there and to get noticed you have to come up with new and provocative ideas to get a book deal or an article published in The Atlantic, Salon, Esquire etc.
Then the self-proclaimed intellectual class go to their cocktail parties and soirees and discuss the latest book or article which sparks "buzz" among the so-called influential class who are so much smarter than us because they read The Atlantic, Salon, and Esquire.
It's all nothing but outlandish provocative ideas to get noticed which sustains self-proclaimed intellectuals who believe everything they read in The Atlantic, Salon, and Esquire because they get to feel intellectually superior to the ignorant rubes who don't read The Atlantic, Salon, and Esquire.
It all amounts to "intellectual" masturbation.
Ben Howe’s theology stinks. He confuses Church and State, also Law and Gospel. He thinks one is ‘persuaded’ to be a Christian by other Christians, like politics. No, only God chooses by grace through faith in Christ through the Holy Spirit’s work in the Gospel.
The State is about power to maintain order, in order that the Gospel may be freely preached and heard, not banned by authorities. President Trump does exactly that.
Too bad Ben, you were raised in poor theology and now it disappoints you. A form of Pietism.
He is angry that leaders of the religious right, who long claimed to be the champions of American morality,....”
Uh, in what way does ANYONE running against Trump represent traditional morals?
I dont know if Ben would like Someone that made a whip and chased the money changer out of the temple or confronted phonies to their face calling them thieves, murderers and liars.
Ha haaaa!!! First, they don’t like us BECAUSE of our values and now they don’t like us because our values are not stringent enough. Make up your minds, Libturds.
Howe, like many mega-church critics, prescribes mega-church leaders political power to tell their congregation what to believe and do.
What Howe misses or ignores, and what most critics of mega-churches miss and ignore, is the vast majority of Christians of personal faith who don't need a mega-church leader to tell them what to think and do.
You can't ascribe what goes on in a mega-church to every Christian. Howe and others lump 'evangelicals' into one united bloc which they aren't.
There's a difference between a mega-Church and Christians who don't attend mega-churches and who think for themselves.
Were evangelicals supposed to vote for Hillary or Stein? If we didn’t provide “cover” for him, would America be better off, or in even more chaos?
Has any other viable candidate, GOP or RAT, been more outspoken condemning abortion or putting America back on the path to its original good-ness? Don’t think so.
Who the f is Ben Howe and why should I give a rats ass that hes angry.
There are people on this forum who say we should give up.
I do not accuse them of being leftists so much as of being secularist hedonists, and so not true conservatives.
They think that homoerotic faux marriage does not damage what they call conservatism, which is almost entirely limited to economics (read: greed).
