A nine-year-old girl in Berlin who was rejected entrance to a centuries-old boys' choir is filing a lawsuit for gender bias. The case has sparked debate across German media about gender equality versus artistic freedom.
A nine-year-old girl who was rejected by one of Germany's most renowned boys choir is suing the choir for gender bias.
An administrative court in Berlin is set to rule on the suit Friday.
The case has sparked a national debate on equal rights versus artistic freedom.
Founded in 1465 by Frederick II, Elector of Brandenburg, the State and Cathedral Choir has never admitted a single female over its 554 years.
The young girl initially auditioned with the Berlin choir in March but was rejected.
According to the court, the choir contends the rejection was "not predominantly about her gender" and that she would have been successful had her voice "matched the desired sound characteristics of a boys' choir."
The choir also claimed to be skeptical about being able to work with the girl's parents.
The 9-year-old's mother had brought the complaint on her daughter's behalf and said that the rejection was discriminatory "in an impermissible way" and infringes upon her right to equal opportunities from an institution receiving state funds.
The girl's lawyer, Susann Braecklein, said that her young client applied to the choir in 2016 and 2018 and was rejected both times without being offered an audition.
The dean of the music faculty at Berlin's University of the Arts, with which the choir affiliated, informed the girl in writing that "a girl will never sing in a boys' choir."
Nevertheless, she was invited for an audition in March, only to be rejected again and told she had neither the motivation nor talent required to join the choir.
The case has generated heated debated across German media regarding tradition, culture, talent, and musicology versus gender equality.
Those siding with the choir argue that importance lies in the tone, not talent. Mixing the choir with females would end its traditional sound, they argue.
Hannah Bethke, a columnist for the daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, said that "nobody has said girls can't sing as well… judging that should be left to the musicians."
She added that anyone who reinforces the "misunderstood gender equality here sacrifices a cultural asset."
Others remain adamant that the issue is one that stems from gender discrimination and backwardness.
Abbie Conant, an American trombonist who faced discrimination as a woman when she first started playing with the Munich Philharmonic in 1980, said that numerous studies reveal "even professional musicians cannot reliably hear the difference between a boys' and a girls' choir singing the same repertoire."
Conant also pointed out that boys' choirs in other countries including England have already opened up to both sexes without legal disputes.
"Why would an enlightened society such as we have in Germany want to continue this kind of discriminatory tradition?" She said.

I don’t watch television, but my wife does, and last night she had one of the big nightly news channels on with Lester Dolt, and they had a whole segment on about “the girl that is setting the little league world series on fire”
Big effing whoop. So they found a girl that could compete against pubescent boys, and they want to make that a cause célèbre to buttress their ideologic agenda that women are just as good as men in any endeavor, especially including sports.
Everything about the Left is agenda driven, and this story about this kid trying to shoot her way into the choir is just another example.
They have destroyed things like the Boy Scouts, and anything else like that is in their sights.
It will be a great day for this country when the current iteration of the Left in general and the media in particular is completely and utterly defunct and every single person holding a job with them is out of work and forced to find another way to make a living other than in a corrosive and destructive anti-American Leftist media.

It is past time. But what we need to do is to start insisting on the truth that boys and girls, men and women, are different and that there is no injustice in recognizing this difference. We need to push back against the entire idea of "sex discrimination." We are different; live with it.
The denial of that simple and unavoidable reality-based conclusion is a cornerstone of Leftism.
I guess the Vienna Boy’s Choir will be next. Sane people should just boycott if these traditional groups are forced to accept girls.
Wait a couple years when her pitching arm doesn’t fill out like young men’s muscles. All the testosterone injections in the world won’t fix that. What will the headlines be saying then?

I have posted it before more than a few times, but is it a good reference. Her key passage that says it all brilliantly in her article is this segment below:

That pretty much sums it up. Nobody is questioning that women have guts, lack a competitive instinct, or are unable to lead. I know from personal experience women have guts, competitive instincts, and leadership skills.
It is a matter of physical strength in general and on average.
My wife says, “ There is a simple solution to this issue, you have a Penis Choir and a Vagina Choir, if you have a penis, you join the penis choir, if you have a vagina, you join the vagina choir.”

That will be the end of spaces for females, whether it's bathrooms or shelters or concerts or choirs --- and obviously, the end of women's athletics.
You've got to take responsibility for the long-term cultural consequences. Feminists will realize that the sexes (and there are only two, neither more nor less) need their distinctively different cultural spaces --- and if they destroy them, they will reap what they sow.
