Ethan Kollie, 24, of Kettering, has been charged with federally lying on federal firearms forms in order to purchase weapons and with illegally possessing those weapons.
Kollie allegedly told agents that he likes guns and currently owns a handgun and a micro Draco pistol.
He also indicated that he purchased body armor and a firearm component for Betts earlier this year.
Kollie agreed to allow agents to search his home, and while inside, they say they smelled marijuana and observed in plain sight a bong and the Drago pistol.
During a second interview on Aug. 8, Kollie told to agents that he and Betts had done hard drugs," marijuana and acid together four or five times a weeks during 2014 and 2015. When asked how often he used drugs in the past year and a half, Kollie said he smokes marijuana every day and has done so since he was 14.
The affidavit says that Kollie also told agents he uses psychedelic mushrooms, which he grows in his residence, and micro-doses on a constant basis, stating it gives him energy and is fun.
Kollie allegedly told agents he lied on ATF Form 4473 while purchasing firearms, specifically while answering question 11e that asks, Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Kollie checked the no box.
Kollie said he bought the items for Betts and stored them at his apartment to help Betts hide them from his parents.
Possessing a firearm as an unlawful user of a controlled substance is a federal crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Making a false statement regarding firearms carries a potential maximum sentence of up to five years imprisonment.

And so the Red Flag Law Loophole narrative begins. Watch for further infringement in the name of closing the Red Flag Law Loophole.
Were hearing more and more about drug use in these killings. If we cant keep drugs away from these killers, how are we going to keep guns away from them?
Impossible. None of this could have happened. This article is incorrect.
Kollie had been Red Flagged. So HOW could any of this have happened?
Hmmmm?
. . . has been charged with federally lying on federal firearms forms . . .
huh?
charged with federally lying on federal firearms forms
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is federally lying different from plain old lying on federal firearms forms?
Kollie allegedly told agents that he likes guns and currently owns a handgun and a micro Draco pistol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then he owns two handguns.
Who wrote this crap?
He lied that he did not use drugs.
I don’t think he did anything illegal with regard to buying or giving stuff to the shooter. Unless body armor is somehow regulated.
tv station in WVA, if that means anything.
Not quite sure from the article how you mean ‘the narrative begins’. This guy lied on the Fed forms so he himself made illegal purchases. Unless I am missing something, this is good for ‘the narrative’ as it shows that existing laws were not enforced, which is generally the problem. Both the deceased and his accomplice were what I would call heavy drug users as described by the article, and clearly both a societal drain as well as a threat (if they are smoking and toking every day, where is the money coming from? Probably dealing? And high with access to guns, bad combo) So the argument to be made is this problem can be dealt with without new laws on good citizens.
There is certainly a challenge presented when laws can only be enforced after the fact. i.e. He lied on the form about drug use but how does anyone know that until a crime is committed and the police investigate? How does one address that without going down the path of drug tests for gun sales, or other unconstitutional avenues?
The narrative can now be that Red Flag Laws have a loophole. Someone not on the Red Flag list can purchase for someone that is on it. Therefore Red Flag is not enough. Only an outright ban and confiscation will do.
Ok, I get that perspective.
I think that argument will fall flat, as like so many other things the libs/dems try to do, it will be a huge over reach.
But thanks for clarifying.
IF the place he bought these from ignored the background check results....he better lawyer up right now.
Oh, clearly a white supremacist.
Its a complete antifa terror cell...
Yup.
A micro draco? WTF is that?
Isnt that supposed to be that he displayed a lack of candor on his federal firearm forms?
“That’s what friends are for....”
Apparently Betts lied too as he had an AR15 pistol and a high cap drum.
Thank God it was not a “micro” AR15 pistol.
