The Gibsons Bakery v. Oberlin College lawsuit has entered two post-trial phases: (1) Post-trial motions then appeals, and (2) public relations.
As part of this jockeying, Oberlin Colleges president Carmen Twillie Ambar has written op-eds and given interviews in which she asserts that Oberlin College was held responsible for the speech of students. This, she argues, presents a threat to campus 1st Amendment rights because it could force universities to clamp down on student speech to avoid liability.
The effort to push out this theme has been well-planned and sustained, and included a FAQ information sheet for alumni. The basis of this public relations campaign, as we have pointed out repeatedly, is false. Oberlin College was not held liable for student speech but for the speech and conduct of its administrators in spreading alleged defamatory statements and interference with business and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The Gibsons attorneys disputed Oberlin Colleges claim it was held liable for student speech, and released their own FAQ information sheet, which went into detail on the evidence presented at the trial. David Gibson also recently released a video statement in which he asserts that Oberlin College is planning to drag out the appeals process because it knows he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer:
Theyre are sending a clear message to me and to my 91-year-old dad that they will just wait us out.

Oberlin needs to sign over its campus to Hillsdale College who could come in, clean house, and set up an Ohio branch campus. Then the Gibsons might be willing to sign-off.
We live about 20 miles south o Oberlin. It’s fun to drive up there and watch the students wander about like a bunch of free range chickens.

From earlier Legal Insurrection articles I recall the local police describing problems with shoplifting by Oberlin students.
These are tomorrow’s educated leaders? Not!
Spend some time in Oberlin. The experience will make you appreciate your normal friends and family.
THIS is the way its done. The only thing leftists understand is a painful hit to their pocketbook.
No, it isn’t.
MCAFWAA.
That’s what you do for fun? I thought farmers had square dances and hog-calling contests for fun.
We could use a few more Hillsdales.
I think Michelle Malkin is an Oberlin alumna. Perhaps she could speak at teh turnover ceremony.
After that, Hillsdale should acquire Burlington College, the one Jane Sanders bankrupted, and reform it.
(I think Dr. Arnn might well be on board if he can raise the money.)
I don’t live to far either. I should drive up and spend a few dollars at their establishment.
TO David Gibson and his father. Just had surgery for pancreatic cancer. It can be beaten. Best wishes for a full recovery no matter how you deal with it.
As for Oberlin, that is the kind of academic cancer that must be excised from the American campus and radical surgery, i.e. your lawsuit, is the best way to do it.
Don’t give the bastards an inch or a breath of air.
MM: Still kicking and bitching at the Left!
God Bless the Gibson family. This is the only way to make leftards pay-BANKRUPT THEM. The icing on the cake would be if the Gibson’s donated half the money to Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign.
Just ordered a Gibson T Shirt

Good for you. My prayers are with you. I had surgery for Stage II colon cancer on April 30, 2015 and, thusfar, am clear of it with a clean colonoscopy this year. The disease can be beaten. Just look at RBG for inspiration.
Excellent.
Starsky : Biker bar, huh? What goes on down there?
Huggy Bear : I don’t know. Listen to Jim Croce, play darts... whatever the hell else you white people do.
Oh! Berlin. Perfect name for new brownshirt training college.
Glad you are still here. Hope you are for years to come.
Couldnt the Gibsons have a Sheriffs sale and sell off Oberlin property to settle the debt?
