August 9 is the 45th anniversary of the resignation of Richard Nixon, the only president in American history to resign or be removed from office. We know what triggered his resignation. He was already on the ropes after two and a half years of Watergate revelations, but what ended any and all defense was the release of the “smoking gun” transcript on August 5. It showed that Nixon had concurred with his staff’s suggestion that they get the CIA to tell the FBI not to interview two Watergate witnesses.
As astonishing as it may be to Americans, who have been assured that the smoking gun tape is proof positive of Nixon’s early cover-up involvement, every person connected to that particular conversation now agrees that the CIA gambit was an effort to prevent disclosure of prominent Democrats who had made substantial contributions to Nixon’s re-election campaign under assurances of absolute secrecy.

I thought the troubling Nixon/Watergate revelation was the final disclosure that Deep Throat was #3 at the FBI. How long has the FBI been controlling presidents?

Can’t believe that Hillary got in that picture at the top of the article, considering that she got KICKED OFF the committee doing the investigation because of ‘ethics issues’.
The entire case against Nixon was built on a lie. A successful lie, but a lie none the less.
The Democrats did not invent chicanery in the political process. But they raised it to an art form.
It was relentless 24/7 coverage on radio, tv and newspapers. Complete and total obsession. He had no choice but to resign under those conditions. They made him unable to carry out the duties of president.
Their trophy: bring down a Republican president.

The media hasn’t changed. It has expanded its iron grip to electronic media, which is able to stir up a moronic populace much faster than print media.
Interesting article but it doesn’t cut tonthe more important issue. The core of Watergate was the break-in at the Democrats’ headquarters in the Watergate hotel in Washington, D.C. Who authorized that break-in, and what were the people who broke in looking for?

I have read a bit on this subject—Nixon was convinced the Democrats (Larry O’Brien, DNC Chairman) had obtained information on bribes Howard Hughes had paid to Nixon.
The bribes were real, btw.
While there is no evidence Nixon himself ordered the break-in, it was done to determine whether O’Brien had the files or not.
Some believe John Dean ordered the break-in, others believe Chuck Colson ordered the break-in....I am sure there are other theories as well.
There are no angels in this story...Nixon and his opponents (Deep State, Democrats, mass media) were all total sleazebags.
Guilt by an innuendo that someone says they will use against someone, and it sticks even though the facts to back it up do not exist.

The Watergate burglars had pockets full of hundred dollar bills traceable to donations made to the committee to re-elect Nixon. These funds were controlled by Nixon's top associates. When informed of the problem created by his own underlings, Nixon's reaction was to suggest that he could raise a million dollars in hush money.
John McCain is once-living proof that one need not be a Democrat to be a member in good standing of the Deep State.

It began with J Edgar Hoover.
He kept files and tapes on anyone and everyone. He was also known for keeping useful information from reaching those it was intended for.
A case in point:
On November 11-12, 1940 21 biplane Swordfish torpedo bombers from HMS Illustrious attacked the Italian fleet at Taranto using aerial torpedoes. This attack so damaged the Italian fleet that it never figured into the war again.
The Japanese pushed the Germans for every scrap of information they could glean from the attack because Taranto is a shallow port, just like Pearl Harbor.
English spies picked up on the chatter about Taranto and got all the information they could.
British MI6 dispatched trusted agent Dusko Popov to D.C. to meet with the FBI. Hoover took the information but never acted on it. He disliked Popov because he was an admitted spy in the employ of England even though MI6 made the arrangements for Popov to meet the FBI. Hoover sat on the information and the rest is history.
Hoover filled the ranks of the FBI with his own sycophants and boot lickers and the template has stuck.
at least since Hoover let RFK know he had tapes of his brother inflagrante. At least he tried to belackmail him.

Maybe, but at least J Edgar Hoover was anti-Communist so he was still a LOT more trustworthy than the guys currently in the FBI for that reason alone. If you ask me, the FBI basically being left-wing mouthpieces has been going on since at least the Clinton years due to his doing that purge to replace senior members with his own sycophants.
Hoover was the originator of the Deep State. The FBI today is what it is because those who followed him didn’t deviate from the Hoover path.
Clinton merely took advantage of the foundation laid by Hoover.
