Spokeswoman Caree Vander Linden confirmed the news to the outlet, adding that inspectors questioned standard operating procedures including failure to follow local procedures and a lack of periodic recertification training for workers in the biocontainment laboratories. SHE ALSO SAID THAT THE WASTEWATER DECONTAMINATION SYSTEM FAILED TO MEET STANDARDS...

BTW, there was massive flooding there in 2018 according to NYT...

If this is accurate, we’re one man in a white lab coat saying “there is no reason for alarm” away from a zombie apocalypse.

Labs are the most regulated industry in the world. The training and retraining requirements were created in days where most lab folks had HS and OJT.
Full disclosure in the lab. The main accrediting agency has hosted such lab leaders as Hilary Clinton.
The compliance piece of the lab generates truckloads of money for inspectors and compliance companies and burdens labs with too much irelevant regulation.
In other words, if a paperclip is in the wrong place, an inspector will cite you for it.
Don’t worry about a few lab deficiencies, very few of them actually matter.
The environmental failures are much the same. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a shut-down saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
