It’s Time to Repeal—and Replace—the Second Amendment
The Nation ^ | August 8, 2019 | Elie Mystal

Posted on 08/07/2019 6:53:56 PM PDT by lowbridge

The Second Amendment is why we can’t go to school, or work, or a house of worship, or a nightclub, or a movie theater, or a music festival, or pretty much any public gathering without fear of getting shot to death. The Second Amendment is why you can’t be immediately arrested for openly carrying around an assault rifle in a public place, and why you can’t be immediately arrested for smuggling a hand-cannon in your gym shorts. The Second Amendment is how law enforcement justifies the need for military-grade armaments—to match the “firepower” they meet in the streets. The Second Amendment is why we have a generation of young people that is scarred or missing from gun violence. And the Second Amendment is why I had to tell my 6-year-old last night to act like Scaredy Squirrel and “play dead” if an “active shooter” storms his classroom, thereby mangling the whole moral of the books.

-snip

Textually, the amendment itself is almost toothless and easily amenable to regulation. Hell, “regulated” is written right into its text: A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

See. You don’t have to be a constitutional scholar to conclude that this amendment is talking about the need for “militias,” not an individual’s right to own a bazooka; and you don’t have to be a historian to noodle out that the founding fathers—who revolted against a global superpower—thought that state militias were pretty cool.

-snip

It was only in the 1970s that the National Rifle Association basically invented the new constitutional theory that the Second Amendment conferred a personal right to own military grade weapons for “self-defense.”

Ah Midwest. I’ll just be happy if you pray for my health, my protection and a small financial miracle or two (God knows the numbers).

Thanks!

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

In a normal world, where America wasn’t run by a racist idiot, The U.K. installing racist idiot Boris Johnson as Prime Minister would be a bigger deal.

More than that - it meant the militia was to practice and be operational. Like a well regulated clock. For the few men that were too poor or did not have arms, the township provided them with one.

Joy Reid, guests salivate … fantasize about Ivanka’s arrest: ‘To get to Trump, you go after his kids’

December 17, 2018 | Samantha Chang
https://www.bizpacreview.com/2018/12/17/joy-reid-guests-salivate-fantasize-about-ivankas-arrest-to-get-to-trump-is-if-you-go-after-his-kids-703803

MSNBC pundit Joy Reid and her guest Elie Mystal fantasize about Ivanka Trump going to jail.

MSNBC’s race-baiting pundit, Joy Reid, and her guest Elie Mystal breathlessly salivated about the unlikely prospect of Ivanka Trump going to jail during a bizarre segment where they said the best way to get at President Trump is to go after his children.

Mystal invoked the 1993 film “The Firm” to fantasize about how Ivanka could end up behind bars. He said Ivanka was involved in negotiating the price that Trump’s Washington, D.C. hotel charged the 58th presidential inaugural committee to rent the venue for events.

Mystal also alleged — without evidence — that Ivanka had overcharged the inaugural committee.

“Do you remember in ‘The Firm,’ how Tom Cruise brings down the entire mob on overbilling?” Mystal asked. “What we have here is Ivanka Trump — as part of the Trump organization — overbilling the inaugural committee. That could be it right there.”

"For a long time I thought the only way we are really going to get to Trump is if you go after his kids. If you put the kids in legal peril, that’s the only thing that’s going to shock him out of his lying, deceitful cocoon. And this could be the way to do it.” Reid pointed out that you cannot indict a sitting US president, but gleefully bleated: “But it doesn’t say anything about a sitting President’s daughter.”

Meanwhile, Joy Reid should be worried that she doesn’t end up in jail for lying to the FBI after she claimed she was hacked when homophobic blog posts she wrote between 2007 and 2009 surfaced.

Joy then asked the FBI to investigate her false claims that her old website (the one with all her anti-gay rants) had been hacked.

Meanwhile, there is zero evidence to support Joy’s claims that she was hacked. So why isn’t she in jail for demanding a bogus FBI investigation?

Lying to the FBI is a serious crime that carries with it a five-year jail sentence.

Joy Reid:

1. Wrote hateful blog posts for years
2. Lied about her blog being hacked
3. Reported a fake crime to the FBI
4. Now says “Okay, I can’t prove I was hacked, but I don’t remember writing hateful blog posts for years.”

Seriously, @MSNBC,how is she still employed?
— Dan O'Donnell (@DanODonnellShow) April 28, 2018 She not only lied, but did so in such a way that the FBI is apparently involved. All to hide a hateful past. It’s a poor reflection on her and @MSNBC.

The 2nd Amendment is why no one breaks into my house. The 2nd Amendment is why you can go to work when you want to. The 2nd Amendment is why thugs do not set up road blocks to rob people.

No, gun free zones are why we can’t go to school, or work, or a house of worship, or a nightclub, or a movie theater, or a music festival, or pretty much any public gathering without fear of getting shot to death.

Fixed it.

“What they meant by this is well equipped.

The militia supplied their own weapons.”

What they meant was an army, like the one they had just fought for their freedom. They fought the British Army, their own country’s army, which made them very fearful of armies, or, in other words, a well regulated militia. But they acknowledge that an army is necessary for a country’s survival. So they established that the people’s right to keep and bear arms shall be infringed so that when the citizens once again would have to fight their own army they would have the arms to do so. See this Penn and Teller video. It explains it much better than I can. (Language warning)

Well, it outta be. But I'm pretty sure that if you openly carry an "assault" rifle around here in NJ you would be arrested.

I like many others used to think the 2nd amendment protected our first 1st amendment rights. I am now starting to think that the 2nd amendment protects us from the 1st amendment.
