“There are but 155 years left … at which time … the world will come to an end,” wrote Christopher Columbus in his book “Libro de Las Profecias,” composed in 1502 between his third and fourth voyages.
Columbus continued: “… The sign which convinces me that our Lord is hastening the end of the world is the preaching of the Gospel recently in so many lands.”
Though his predictions were off, Columbus’ writings revealed his motivation for setting sail on his first voyage Aug. 3, 1492, with the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria. He sought to find a sea route to India and China as the Islamic Ottoman Turks had closed off the land routes 40 years earlier.
The background of the Islamic state occupying large areas of Europe began when Muslim crusaders, called “Moors,” invaded Spain in 711 A.D. With a cavalry of 80,000, Moors wielding curved scimitar swords, “went through all places like a desolating storm.” The Mozarabic Chronicle, 754 A.D., recorded that thousands of churches were burned and: “God alone knows the number of the slain.”
In 846 A.D., just 46 years after Charlemagne was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in Rome’s old St. Peter’s Basilica, 11,000 Muslims on 73 ships invaded Rome and sacked the Basilica. They looted old St. Peter’s basilica and desecrated the grave of St. Peter. Invaders then trashed the remains of St. Paul, which were in the historic church, San Paolo fuori le Mura (St Paul’s outside the Walls). As a result of this invasion, Pope Leo IV began building a massive wall to protect the Vatican from Muslims raiders.

A New History of the First Peoples in the Americas:
2+ decades ago, I really got into genealogy after I took early retirement. I ended up as a genealogy librarian at the local Mormon Temple Genealogy Library and for the county society. (I’m not Mormon.)
My Dad had died in 1996, and he was an orphan raised by an aunt. He and she didn’t discuss much of his/their ancestry.
Both my Dad and his Aunt had talked about being part Cherokee.
My Grandfather on my mother’s side was English and had a very interesting genealogy and supposedly no Indian ancestors.
In about 6 years of genealogy research, I had most of these ancestors documented data/lineages. Then, I hit brick walls re documentation. So I stopped researching. This was before DNA became big re genealogy research. DNA has revolutionized the genealogy world and market.
A couple of years ago a sibling and an adult child had gotten DNA tests and into Ancestor.com.. They paid for a year subscription and my DNA test to get me back into the game.
Since, then I have found to 30,000 identified ancestors, many of which we knew nothing about. This documentation is both DNA, paper wise and via communications on the internet.
It has been fascinating to find so many “new” ancestors and yet frustrating.
The frustration had been identifying/documenting on paper close to 200 Cherokee ancestors and a handful of other tribes with documentation and zero DNA data.
These ancestors were not my Dad’s. They were a few generations past on my Maternal Grand Dad’s. They never mentioned anything about any Indian/Cherokee ancestors.
We found that 3% of my and my sibling’s DNA data came from western Africa. There is no real paper documentation yet on either side of parents of who were my/our African ancestors. My sibling’s grand kids have this documented DNA. That totally destroys the bs explanation that our Indian DNA is too far back generation wise to show up on DNA.
The Atlantic link you posted basically tells us that there is no true American Native DNA, aka any tribe.

The two things are not mutually exclusive, as I can confidently attest in my own life and in the lives of many other Catholics I know.
Columbus discovered America as a reaction to Muslims closing the trade routes to China/India after the conquering of Constantinople?? Very interesting! I’ve never heard of this before.

Although Columbus grew up in Italy, his family were transplanted Polish nobles, with a tight family connection to Northern religious orders of Knights, who maintained a strong nautical tradition from the time of the Vikings.
He was reportedly familiar with Viking excursions to Vinland, and charts of the North Atlantic that extended West of Iceland. So he (and the Court of Ferdinand and Isabella) had lots of leads, but no current definite proof of what to expect.

He was actually a very ambitious social climber, who had insisted on a contract to govern new lands that he discovered, to elevate his family to be the ruling nobility there (subordinate to the Spanish Crown).
He was returned in chains to Spain because the extensive slavery and brutal treatment he subjected the locals to (especially in searching for gold), was beyond what the Spanish would tolerate.
His writing may have been to appeal to the religiosity of the King and Queen, to receive their funding, more than a real expression of his own motivation. He was apparently a life-long practicing Catholic however.

I'm not into genealogy research but I found it interesting as to
the development of this country over the many eons.
