Mauritania: Man held for two extra years in prison on blasphemy charges as Muslims call for his execution

This is a great injustice, but they could have put him to death, as the mob wishes to do. There is much support in the Qur’an and Sunnah for the death penalty for blasphemy. It can arguably be found in this verse: “Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.” (5:33)
Also: “Those who annoy Allah and His Messenger – Allah has cursed them in this World and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment” (33:57)
And: “If they violate their oaths after pledging to keep their covenants, and attack your religion, you may fight the leaders of paganism – you are no longer bound by your covenant with them – that they may refrain” (9:12).
There is more in the hadith. In one, Muhammad asked: “Who is willing to kill Ka’b bin Al-Ashraf who has hurt Allah and His Apostle?” One of the Muslims, Muhammad bin Maslama, answered, “O Allah’s Apostle! Would you like that I kill him?” When Muhammad said that he would, Muhammad bin Maslama said, “Then allow me to say a (false) thing (i.e. to deceive Kab).” Muhammad responded: “You may say it.” Muhammad bin Maslama duly lied to Ka’b, luring him into his trap, and murdered him. (Bukhari 5.59.369)

A Mauritanian blogger who was jailed for more than five years after being convicted of blaspheming the Muslim Prophet Muhammad has been released.
Rights groups had waged a long campaign to secure Mohamed Cheikh Ould Mohamed M’khaitir’s release.
He had been due for release in 2017 but the government refused saying he could be lynched.
Conservative Muslims had demanded his execution for a Facebook post he wrote about the Prophet Muhammad.
In the post from 2014, M’khaitir had questioned the choices made by the Prophet Muhammad during holy wars in the 7th Century….
He was convicted of blasphemy that same year and sentenced to death, but the sentence was commuted to two years in jail after an appeal.
He should have been released in 2017 because he had already spent two years in jail, but crowds of conservative Muslim protesters called for his execution forcing authorities to detain him on “security grounds”….
Mauritania has since amended its criminal code and the death penalty is now mandatory for anyone convicted of what is seen as blasphemous speech.
Moderate Muslims
What constitutes blasphemy to these nuts? I probably do it any time the discussion of Islam comes up.
Telling the truth about Islam and Mohammad is blasphemy to Muslims.
Christ told Pilate that His Kingdom is not of this world, because if it was His disciples would be fighting ... well, Allah’s (Satan) dominion is only in this world and Muslims have been fighting somewhere ever since Mohammad first thought he and his brigands were strong enough to get away with murdering.
It already *IS* reality in the west.
If nothing else, what happened at Charlie Hebdo proves that the penalty for blaspheming the Moon God is death, no matter where you are in the world.
(unless you can defend yourself, of course)
There are no "Conservative Muslims" or "Liberal Muslims".
Likewise there are no variations of the Koran, such as in Christianity, i.e. "King James Version" of the Bible or "Tree of Life version", or "New International Version", etc.
There are only observant Muslims, and non-observant Muslims. They all hold dear the same Koran, Sira, and Hadith.
There are peaceful-sounding verses in the Koran, but they are abrogated (superseded) by later, intolerant and violent verses in the Koran, paralleling the journey of Muhammed's life.
The observant Muslims have no desire to show tolerance of, or mercy for, non-Muslims.
What about blasphemous utterings about the Catholic Church? Do people call for their death?

Canada 114/100,000. Mauritania more than 10x less at 46/100,000.

Fortunately the Trump administration appears to recognize him for what he is. We cut off a Turkish deal for the F-35 after Erdogan announced an intention to acquire the Russian S-400 air defense system. We can't have him handing over test data on the F-35 vulnerability to the S-400 to our enemies. That's for openers -- unless the Turks turn around they'll eventually end up out of NATO. Unfortunately for our side the Turks have the 2nd biggest fleet of F-16's in the world, so we're hoping for regime change over kicking them out.
