Former Sheriff of Philadelphia Sentenced to Prison
US Department of Justice ^ | August 1, 2019 | Press Release

Posted on 08/02/2019 9:54:07 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

The former Sheriff of Philadelphia John Green, 72, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to serve five years in prison followed by one year of supervised release, and ordered to forfeit $76,581 by U.S. District Judge Wendy Beetlestone of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

John Green was convicted of conspiring to defraud the citizens of Philadelphia of his honest services as Sheriff of Philadelphia by receiving and accepting a stream of hidden personal benefits from co-defendant James Davis in exchange for giving Davis millions of dollars of business at the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office. From 2002 to 2011, Green accepted hidden bribes and kickbacks from his co-defendant Davis totaling over $675,000.

In exchange, Green gave his co-defendant Davis over $35 million of business at the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office in the sale of homes at sheriff’s sales.

“This type of corruption erodes the faith of citizens in the city's ability to function and causes people to question the honesty, integrity and efficiency of how the city is run,” said City of Philadelphia Inspector General Amy L. Kurland.

NYC has a sheriff. He handles evictions. I assume the Philly sheriff handled evictions as well and that’s why he was able to steer home sales to his buddy.

Philadelphia has its own police department which is responsible for police services in the city limits of Philadelphia. Those areas outside of the city limits would be patrolled by the Sheriff’s Department.

That’s odd...silly me I always think of sheriffs as county level officials.

He was "convicted of conspiring to defraud the citizens of Philadelphia of his honest services."

Wow, can we apply this statute to the entire treasonous cabal under Obama that conspired to defraud the citizens of the United States of the honest services of President Donald Trump? That would be a slam-dunk.

Well, I’m confused now about your confusion. A Sheriff is a county level position, and a Chief of Police is a city level position.

Why is he described as a sheriff of Philadelphia? That’s like calling the sheriff of Cook County a sheriff of Chicago.
